Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Khawlah narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, the world is lush and sweet. So whoever takes it with its due right, then there is blessing in it for him, and for those who excessively ponder over the wealth of Allah and His Messenger, there is the fire of Hell on the Day of Resurrection."

It is narrated from Hazrat Hakeem bin Hizam that he says: I asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he gave me. I asked him again, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me again. I asked him (peace and blessings be upon him) once more, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me again. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, this wealth is lush and sweet. So, whoever takes it with a content heart, it is blessed for him. And whoever takes this wealth out of greed, there is no blessing in it for him. And the example of such a person is like that of one who eats but is not satisfied. And the upper hand is better than the lower hand.

It is narrated from Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Indeed, this wealth is sweet and lush. So whoever takes it with its due right, then there is blessing in it for him."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon when a man stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Drought has consumed us." The narrator says that the people made him sit down and he sat. He stood up again and called out in a loud voice. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards him and said: "I fear for you something even more than this, that the world will be poured upon you in abundance. I wish that my Ummah would not wear gold."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he says: I presented myself in the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace be upon him) was sitting in the shade of the Ka'bah. When he (peace be upon him) saw me, he said: "By the Lord of the Ka'bah! These people are very much at loss." So I came and sat down. I had hardly settled when I stood up and said: May my parents be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Who are these people? He (peace be upon him) said: "These are those who have abundance in wealth, except for the one who gives his wealth like this and like this— in front of him, behind him, to his right, and to his left."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O group of the poor! Shall I not give you glad tidings?" Indeed, the believing poor will enter Paradise half a day, that is, five hundred years, before the wealthy believers.

Hazrat Buraidah Aslami narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "For any one of you, one servant and one mount from this world is sufficient."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) passed by a dead goat which its household had thrown away. So he (peace be upon him) said: The destruction of the world is lighter in the sight of Allah Almighty than this goat is to its household.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Rabee’ah that he says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey when suddenly he passed by a discarded goat. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Do you consider this goat insignificant to its owners?” The people replied, “Yes.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “This goat is as insignificant to its owners as the world is even more insignificant and worthless in the sight of Allah Almighty.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a dead goat. He (peace be upon him) asked: "Why have the people of this house thrown away this goat?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Would they benefit from it when it has died? Upon this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Just as this goat is insignificant (worthless) to its owners, the world is even more insignificant (and worthless) in the sight of Allah Almighty than this."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The believers who are poor will enter Paradise half a day—that is, five hundred years—before the rich."

Hazrat Musa bin Anas narrates, he says that I heard Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much.

It is narrated from Hazrat Qasim that he says Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! How will people be gathered on the Day of Resurrection?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bare-bodied and barefoot." I said: "And the women?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The women too." (Hazrat Aisha [may Allah be pleased with her] says) I said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Will we not feel shy (from one another)?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The matter will be more severe than that for anyone to look at another."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he heard the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) delivering a sermon, in which he said: "Surely, you will meet your Lord in a state that you will be naked, barefoot, and uncircumcised."

Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Asid narrates that he says Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O people! Speak the truth and then do not act against it. Because the Truthful, the Confirmed One has informed me that "Surely, on the Day of Resurrection, people will be brought to the plain of gathering in three groups. One group will be well-off, dressed in fine clothes, riding on mounts; and one group will be walking and running; and one group will be dragged by the angels on their faces." The narrator says: We said, "We recognize these two groups, but who will be those who walk and run?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty will send a calamity of death upon the mounts. So much so that if a person with a lush garden is riding a saddled she-camel to cross it, that she-camel will not be able to carry him across. (According to the scholars of hadith, this sentence does not pertain to the conditions of the Hereafter.)

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us to deliver a sermon and said: "Surely you will be gathered before Allah barefoot, naked, and uncircumcised. { کَمَا بَدَأْنَا أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍ نُعِیدُہُ وَعْدًا عَلَیْنَا إنَّا کُنَّا فَاعِلِینَ } The first among the creation to be clothed will be Ibrahim, the Friend of Allah (peace be upon him).” He (peace be upon him) said: “Then some of you will be seized towards the left side, and I will say: O my Lord! These are my companions. It will be said: You do not know what they innovated after you. They kept turning back on their heels. At this I will say the same thing as the righteous servant … Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him) … said."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People will be gathered in three ways: those who desire, those who fear, and two on one camel, and three on one camel.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is called to account on the Day of Resurrection will be punished." I asked, is this not the Divine statement: { فَسَوْفَ یُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا یَسِیرًا }? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is not the reckoning, this is only the presentation. Whoever is questioned in detail in the reckoning on the Day of Resurrection will be punished."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man from among the people of Paradise will be brought who had faced the greatest hardships in the world. Then Allah, the Exalted, will command: Dip this man once in Paradise. So he will be dipped in Paradise. Then Allah, the Exalted, will say: O son of Adam! Did you ever experience any hardship or anything unpleasant? He will reply: No, by Your honor! I have never seen anything unpleasant. Then a man from among the people of Hell will be brought who had lived in the greatest luxuries in the world. Allah, the Exalted, will command: Dip him once in Hell. So he will be dipped in Hell. Then Allah, the Exalted, will ask: O son of Adam! Did you ever experience any comfort of the eyes? He will reply: By Your honor! No, I have never seen any good."

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I used to serve the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Do you have anything with you that you can feed us?" I replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! There is some leftover food from yesterday." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did I not forbid you from saving today's food for tomorrow?"

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never ate his fill of bread made from wheat for three consecutive days until his death.

It is narrated from Hazrat Qasim that he says Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We would remain for a whole month or half a month in such a state that no fire—whether for a lamp or anything else—would be lit in our house. I (Qasim) asked her: Then how did you sustain yourselves? She replied: With two things—water and dates. And there were some Ansar who were our neighbors—may Allah reward them with goodness. They had she-camels, so sometimes they would send the milk of those she-camels to us.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata bin Yasar that he says: The world was presented before the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace be upon him) said: "I do not desire you." The world replied, "If you do not desire me, soon others besides you will desire me."

It is narrated from Hazrat Amr bin Qais that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The superiority of knowledge is better than the superiority of worship, and the essence of your religion is piety.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Will you remember your family on the Day of Resurrection?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "There are three places where I will not remember anyone: at the time of the presentation of the book of deeds, at the time of the weighing of deeds, and at the Bridge of Sirat."

Hazrat Bahz bin Hakeem narrates from his father and his grandfather, who says: I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Where do you command me to go?" So the Prophet (peace be upon him) pointed towards Shaam with his blessed hand and said: "Surely, you will be gathered mounted and on foot, and you will be gathered on your faces."

Hazrat Haroon bin Abi Waqee’, narrates from his father, who says that when this verse { الْیَوْمَ أَکْمَلْتُ لَکُمْ دِینَکُمْ } was revealed—the narrator says it was the day of the Greater Pilgrimage—he says Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): “What is making you weep?” Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What has made me weep is that previously we were increasing in our religion (in hope). But when this religion has become complete, the fact is that whenever something becomes complete, then it begins to decline. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “You have spoken the truth.”

It is narrated from Hasan that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There are no drops more beloved to Allah Almighty than these two drops: one is the drop of blood that falls in the way of Allah, and the other is the tear that falls from the eye of a person out of fear of Allah, who stands before Allah in the middle of the night. And there are no sips more beloved to Allah than these two sips: one is the painful and distressing sip which a person accepts with good patience and endurance, and the other is the sip of anger which a person restrains."

It is narrated from Hasan that he said: The worship would so overwhelm the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he (peace be upon him) would come to his companions (may Allah be pleased with them), he (peace be upon him) would appear like an old waterskin.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The example of a believer is like that of a crop; the wind keeps shaking it continuously. Similarly, trials keep befalling the believer continuously. And the example of a disbeliever is like that of a pine tree, which does not move at all until it is completely cut down.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ka'b that he says the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The example of a believer is like a fresh crop which the winds move; sometimes they bend it and sometimes they straighten it, until it turns yellow. And the example of a disbeliever is like a pine tree which stands straight on its root in the ground; nothing can move it until it is uprooted all at once.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A believer to another believer is like a building, each part of which strengthens the other."

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Amr that he said: The example of a believer is like that of a honeybee, which eats what is pure and brings forth what is pure.

It is narrated from Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir that he says the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The example of all the believers is like that of a single person. If a person's head complains, the whole body shares in fever and sleeplessness with it."

Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: “A believer, in relation to other believers, is like the head to the body. A believer feels the pain of the people of faith just as the head feels the pain of the rest of the body.”

Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he (peace be upon him) said: The example of a believer is like that of a body; when one part of it is in pain, the rest of the body also shares in that pain.

It is narrated from Hasan that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: No person raises himself except that Allah lowers him, and no person humbles himself except that Allah elevates him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me: "Recite the Qur'an to me." Hazrat Abdullah says, I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon you! Should I recite it to you, while it has been revealed to you?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I desire to hear it from someone other than myself." The narrator says, so I began to recite Surah An-Nisa, until when I reached { فَکَیْفَ إذَا جِئْنَا مِنْ کُلِّ أُمَّۃٍ بِشَہِیدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِکَ عَلَی ہَؤُلاَئِ شَہِیدًا }, I raised my head... or a man sitting beside me made me attentive... so I saw that the eyes of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, were flowing with tears.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Busr that a Bedouin asked the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): "Who among the people is the best?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: "The one whose life is long and whose deeds are good."

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, it is a sign of a man's good fortune that his life is long and Allah Almighty grants him the ability to turn towards Him."
