Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

It is narrated from Hazrat Qatadah that he says: Whenever the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) recited { وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِنَ النَّبِیِّینَ مِیثَاقَہُمْ وَمِنْک وَمِنْ نُوحٍ }, he used to say: Through me, goodness was initiated, and in terms of Prophethood, I am the last among them.

It is narrated from Hasan that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Perform deeds according to your capacity, for none of you knows when his appointed time (death) will come.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mak'hool that he says: It has reached me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: There is no servant who purifies (himself) sincerely for forty mornings except that the springs of wisdom flow from his heart to his tongue.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mahmood bin Labeed that he said: When this Surah { أَلْہَاکُمُ التَّکَاثُرُ حَتَّی زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ ۔ تا۔ ثم لَتُسْأَلُنَّ یَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِیمِ } was revealed to the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the people asked: O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! About which blessings will we be questioned? There are only two blessings... water and dates. While our swords are upon our necks and the enemy is present. So then, about which blessings will we be questioned? The Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: These circumstances will soon come.

Hazrat Muslim Qureshi narrates about Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib that I heard him say that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When a servant becomes good, Allah Almighty subjects him to trials. Because Allah Almighty wants to purify him thoroughly.

It is narrated from Hazrat Saad bin Masood that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed, poverty adorns a believer more than a beautiful bridle adorns the cheek of a horse.

It is narrated from Hasan that he says: The worship of (Allah) would so occupy the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he (peace be upon him) would come to the people, it was as if he (peace be upon him) was like a very old water-skin. He (peace be upon him) was the most beautiful of all people. So it was submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Is it not the case that Allah Almighty has forgiven you?" He (peace be upon him) replied: "Then should I not be a grateful servant?"

It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Aslam that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah Almighty will admit into Paradise only the one who hopes for Paradise, and Allah Almighty will save from Hell only the one who fears it, and Allah Almighty will have mercy only on the one who shows mercy.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: My friend advised me regarding seven things. He advised me to love the poor and to be close to them; and that I should look at those who are below me and not look at those who are above me; and that I should maintain ties of kinship even if they are unkind to me; and that I should frequently recite "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah"; and that I should speak the bitter truth; and that in matters concerning Allah, I should not fear the blame of any blamer; and that I should not ask people for anything.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Nazrah that he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and some of his companions ate sifted barley bread with meat and drank water from the canal. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: This food is also among the blessings. On the Day of Judgment, you will be questioned about this as well.

It is narrated from Hasan that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was on one of his journeys. He, peace be upon him, camped at a place that was afflicted by drought and was barren. And he, peace be upon him, ordered his companions, may Allah be pleased with them, to dismount as well. So they also dismounted. The narrator says: Then he, peace be upon him, ordered them to gather together. The narrator says: So a man began to bring the small to the small, the large to the large, and one thing to another, until a very large crowd was gathered. Then he, peace be upon him, said: O children of Adam! This is the example of your deeds in evil and in good.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the day when all people will be standing before the Lord of the worlds. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: They will be called to account until their sweat reaches their ears.

It is narrated from Hazrat Umar bin Zar that he says my father said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: With every speaker’s tongue is Allah Almighty. Therefore, a servant should see what he says.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sa’d Ta’i that it reached him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: No believing servant feeds a believer except that Allah, the Exalted, will feed him from the fruits of Paradise; and no believing servant gives water to a believer due to thirst except that Allah, the Exalted, will give him pure drink; and no believer clothes a believer who is naked except that Allah, the Exalted, will clothe him with the green garments of Paradise.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu al-Khalil Salih that he says: Since the revelation of this verse: "So do you wonder at this statement and laugh (making it a mockery)," after that, the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was not seen laughing or smiling.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There are two blessings regarding which many people are deceived: health and free time.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Ask Allah Almighty for beneficial knowledge and seek refuge with Allah Almighty from knowledge that does not benefit.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Abdur Rahman that he says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I do not command you to become merely a knowledge-loving scholar or a recluse who renounces the world.

It is narrated from Hasan, he says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Surely Allah Almighty does not accept the deed of a servant until He is pleased with it.

It is narrated from Hasan that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Knowledge is of two kinds: One kind of knowledge is that which is in the heart, and this is the beneficial knowledge. And one kind of knowledge is that which is on the tongue, so this is Allah’s proof against His servants.

Hazrat Abu Ja'far Madaini narrates, he reports it as marfu‘ that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How astonishing! Complete astonishment is for the person who affirms the abode of eternity... Paradise... but strives for the abode of deception... the world. How astonishing! Complete astonishment is for the person who shows pride and arrogance while he is merely the product of a drop of fluid, then he will become a corpse. And even during this, he does not know what will be done with him."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Harith that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performed Hajj on a mount, and he leaned forward on it, resting on both hands as if on a cushion, and said: "Here I am, indeed true life is the life of the Hereafter."

It is narrated from a man of the tribe of Juhaina, who says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Among the things granted to a believer, the best is good character. And among the things given to a person, the worst is a bad heart in a beautiful appearance.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sha’bi that he says: When Hazrat Mu’adh came to Yemen, he delivered a sermon to the people. He praised Allah and glorified Him, and said: I am the messenger of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ to you, that you worship Allah, do not associate anything with Him, establish prayer, and pay zakat. Because He alone is Allah, and Paradise and Hell are places of abiding; thus, there is no departure from there, and it is a place of permanence. Thus, there is no death there.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Islam began in a state of estrangement and soon it will return to the state in which it began. So glad tidings to the strangers." It was asked, "Who are the strangers?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: "Those who are cast out from various tribes."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, the religion began in a state of estrangement, and soon it will return to its original state. So glad tidings for the strangers.

Hazrat Ibrahim bin Mughira ... or Ibn Abi Mughira ... narrates that he says the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Glad tidings are for the strangers." It was asked, "Who are the strangers?" He, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: "They are those who reform when people become corrupt."

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed, Islam began in a state of estrangement, and soon it will return to the state in which it began. So glad tidings for the strangers.

Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: When any one of you dies, his abode is presented to him morning and evening. If he is among the people of Paradise, then his abode from Paradise is shown to him, and if he is among the people of Hell, then his abode from Hell is shown to him, and it is said to him: "This is your abode," until the Day of Resurrection when Allah will raise you.

Narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in his illness in which he passed away, said: "What happened to the gold?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! It is with me." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring it to me." So I brought it and presented it to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and it was between five and nine (coins). Thus, he (peace and blessings be upon him) placed it in his palm and turned it over, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If this gold had remained with Muhammad ﷺ and he had met Allah, what would Muhammad ﷺ be thought of? O Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her)! Spend it."

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while his blessed face was changed. I thought that this (perhaps) was due to some change, so I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon you)! I am seeing your face changed. Is this due to some illness? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No. But the reason is those seven dinars that were brought to us yesterday. I had placed them at the edge of the bed (and) forgot about them. Thus, I spent the night without distributing them."

It is narrated from Hazrat Uqbah bin Harith that he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) once finished the Asr prayer quickly and turned away, so the people were very surprised at his haste. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the people and noticed the astonishment on their faces. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A piece (of gold or something similar) that was kept at home came to my mind, and I feared that it might remain with us overnight. Therefore, I ordered it to be distributed."

It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). He (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a curtain hanging at her door, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not enter inside. The narrator says that it was very rare that when he (peace and blessings be upon him) would come, he would not first go to Fatimah. When Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came home, he saw Fatimah worried and sad, so he asked, "What has happened to you?" She replied, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me but did not enter." Upon this, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! This action of yours has been very hard on Fatimah, that you came to her but did not enter." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What do I have to do with the world?" or he said, "What have I to do with decoration and adornment?" Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) then went to Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and told her what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) what he commands me to do." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Tell Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she should send it to Banu so-and-so."

It is narrated from Hazrat Hasan that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to the house of his daughter, Hazrat Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, and saw a curtain spread out. So the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, turned back. The narrator says that then Hazrat Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: I have heard that you came to your daughter's house but did not enter? The narrator says that upon this, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Did I not see that they had hung a curtain in their house for the sake of Allah?" Hazrat Hasan was asked: Which curtain was this? He replied: It was a curtain of the villagers, the price of which was four dirhams. Hazrat Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, used to spread it in the back part of the house.

It is narrated from Hasan that he said: The price of the veils of the wives of the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) was six (dirhams) or close to that.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sa’d that he says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The best provision is that which suffices, and the best remembrance is the hidden remembrance.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! Make the sustenance of the family of Muhammad sufficient for a day

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah, he says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not build houses on land, lest you become desirous of the world." Hazrat Abdullah says: Razan, what is Razan, and Madinah, what is Madinah..

The son of Ka'b bin Malik, narrating from his father, reports from the Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "Two hungry wolves let loose among sheep do not cause as much destruction to the flock as a man's greed for wealth and status does to his religion."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said—while he was on the pulpit—"The thing I fear most for you is that which Allah will bring forth for you from the adornments of the earth or the beauties of life." At this, a man stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Does good also bring evil?" So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent, until we thought that revelation was being sent down upon him. And sweat and trembling appeared on him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Where is the one who asked? He only intended good." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, good only brings good. But this world is lush and sweet. The plants that grow in the spring kill or nearly kill the animals that eat to their fill, except for those animals that eat greenery, and when their bellies are moderately filled, they go into the sun, chew the cud, digest the food, defecate, and then return to eat again. Whoever takes wealth rightfully, it is blessed for him, and whoever takes wealth without right, his example is like that of one who eats but is never satisfied."
