Those Who Say There is No Need for Adhan and Iqamah for Home Prayer

Hazrat Aswad and Hazrat Alqama narrate that we visited Hazrat Abdullah at his home. He asked, "Have those who are behind you performed the prayer?" We replied, "No." He said, "Get up and perform the prayer." Hazrat Abdullah did not instruct for the call to prayer (adhan) or the commencement (iqamah) to be given.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Waqid narrates that Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) would not say the Iqamah at a place where the prayer was already being performed.

Hazrat Ikrimah says that when you pray at home, the call to prayer (adhan) of the local muezzin is sufficient for you.

Ibrahim says that when you are in your city, the iqamah of the people of the city is sufficient for you.

Hazrat Sha'bi says that the iqamah of the townspeople is sufficient for you.

Hazrat Awn bin Abdullah narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey, and when he heard the mu’adhdhin’s iqamah, he led his companions in prayer.

Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Aswad narrates that his father, due to some excuse, would pray at home, so he would suffice with the iqamah of the people.

Hazrat Mujahid says that when you hear the iqamah and you are at home, then if you wish, that same iqamah is sufficient for you.

Munzir bin Tha'laba says that I asked Abu Majliz: If I am in a town where prayer is offered in congregation, and then I pray alone, should I give the adhan and iqamah? He replied: If you wish, the adhan given by the people is sufficient for you, and if you wish, you may also give the adhan and say the iqamah.
