Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 39697 — Reports on the conquest of Makkah

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This place is sacred, meaning Makkah. Allah Almighty made it sacred on the day He created the earths and the heavens and placed these two mountains (al-Akhshabayn). This land was not made lawful for anyone before me, nor will it be lawful for anyone after me. And for me too it was made lawful for only a single hour of the day. Its thorns shall not be cut, its game shall not be startled, its grass shall not be cut, and its lost property shall not be picked up, except that it is permissible for one who announces it to pick it up." Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! It is hard for the people of Makkah to do without idhkhir grass, for they use it in their buildings and their ironwork." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Idhkhir is excepted."
