Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 36906 — Reports on what is prepared

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Sirat will be placed over Hell. On it will be thorns like those of the plant called sa'dan. Then the people will begin to cross it. Some will be saved in safety. Some will be scratched by it and then be saved. Some will be held captive in it and thrown down into it. When Allah Almighty has finished the reckoning of the servants, the believers will not see certain people who used to pray in the world, give zakah, fast, perform Hajj and wage jihad. The believers will say: 'Our Lord! There are some of Your servants who used to pray in the world, give zakah, fast and wage jihad, but now we do not see them.' Allah Almighty will say: 'Go to Hell, and whichever of them you see, bring him out.' They will go to Hell, and the Fire will have seized people according to their deeds. Some will be in the Fire up to their feet, some up to the middle of their shins, some up to their knees, some up to their bellies, some up to their chests, and some will be wrapped in it up to their necks, but it will not have covered the face. Then they will be thrown into the water of life." The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! What is the water of life?" He said: "It is the water with which the people of Paradise bathe. Then they will sprout as crops sprout in water. Then the prophets will intercede for those who said La ilaha illa Allah (there is no god but Allah) with sincerity. Then Allah Almighty will show further mercy to the people of Hell, and will bring out of Hell everyone in whose heart there is faith the weight of a single grain."
