Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 22073 — A man who buys something and finds

Salim said: Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) sold a slave for eight hundred dirhams. The buyer then found a defect in him and brought the case before Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about it, and he said: I sold him on the basis of bara'ah (disclaimer of defects). Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): Will you swear that when you sold him you knew of no defect in him?
