حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، أَنَّ الْقَاسِمَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ، أَنَّ سَهْلَةَ بِنْتَ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، جَاءَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ سَالِمًا مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ مَعَنَا فِي بَيْتِنَا، وَقَدْ بَلَغَ مَا يَبْلُغُ الرِّجَالُ، وَقَدْ عَلِمَ مَا يَعْلَمُ الرِّجَالُ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَرْضِعِيهِ تَحْرُمِي عَلَيْهِ»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyidah Sahlah bint Suhayl bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), lives with us in our house, and he has reached the age that men reach and knows what men know. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Nurse him, and you will become unlawful (for marriage) to him."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْمُنْذِرِ الْقَزَّازُ، ثنا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ الْقَدَّاحِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةَ حُذَيْفَةَ جَاءَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَتْ: إِنَّ سَالِمًا مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ يَدْخُلُ عَلِيَّ وَأَنَا وَاضِعَةٌ ثَوْبِي، فَأَجِدُ فِي نَفْسِي فَقَالَ: «أَرْضِعِيهِ يَذْهَبُ عَنْكِ الَّذِي تَجِدِينَ»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the wife of Abu Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah, comes in to me while I have put aside my (outer) garment, and I feel uneasy about it in my heart. He said: "Nurse him, and the uneasiness you feel will go away."
حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ الْأُمَوِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، وَرَبِيعَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، «أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ سَهْلَةَ بِنْتَ سُهَيْلٍ أَنْ تُرْضِعَ سَالِمًا لِيُذْهِبَ مَا فِي نَفْسِ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyidah Sahlah bint Suhayl (may Allah be pleased with her) to nurse Salim, so that what was in the heart of Abu Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) would go away.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: جَاءَتْ سَهْلَةُ بِنْتُ سُهَيْلٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَأَرَى فِي وَجْهِ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ مِنْ أَمَرِ سَالِمٍ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَرْضِعِيهِ» فَقَالَتْ: إِنَّهُ كَبِيرٌ فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ: «أَلَيْسَ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ رَجُلٌ؟» قَالَتْ: فَفَعَلَتْ، فَأَتَتْهُ فَقَالَتْ: وَالَّذِي أَكْرَمَكَ بِمَا أَكْرَمَكَ بِهِ، مَا رَأَيْتُ فِي وَجْهِ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ شَيْئًا
Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Sayyidah Sahlah bint Suhayl (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I see signs of displeasure on the face of Abu Hudhayfah concerning the matter of Salim. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Nurse him." She said: But he is grown up. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and said: "Do I not know that he is a man?" (Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her)) said: So she did so, then came to him and said: By the One who honoured you with what He honoured you with, I have not (since) seen anything (of displeasure) on the face of Abu Hudhayfah.
حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ مُسَافِرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ، وَعُمْرَةُ بِنْتُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنَّ أَبَا حُذَيْفَةَ بْنَ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ، وَكَانَ مِمَّنْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَبَنَّى سَالِمًا كَمَا تَبَنَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَيْدَ بْنَ حَارِثَةَ، وَكَانَ مَنْ تَبَنَّى رَجُلًا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ دَعَاهُ النَّاسُ إِلَيْهِ، وَوَرِثَ مِنْ مِيرَاثَهِ حَتَّى أَنْزَلَ اللهُ فِي ذَلِكَ: {ادْعُوهُمْ لِآبَائِهِمْ هُوَ أَقْسَطُ عِنْدَ اللهِ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَعْلَمُوا آبَاءَهُمْ فَإِخْوَانُكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ وَمَوَالِيكُمْ} [الأحزاب: ٥] فَرُدُّوا إِلَى آبَائِهِمْ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يُعْلَمْ لَهُ أَبٌ كَانَ مَوْلًى، قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: وَإِنَّ سَهْلَةَ بِنْتَ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْقُرَشِيِّ ثُمَّ الْعَامِرِيِّ كَانَتْ تَحْتَ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ جَاءَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ أَنْزَلَ اللهُ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا كُنَّا نَرَى سَالِمًا وَلَدًا، وَكَانَ يَأْوِي مَعِي وَمَعَ أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ فِي بَيْتٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَيَرَانِي وَأَنَا فَضْلٌ، وَقَدْ أَنْزَلَ اللهُ فِيهِمْ مَا قَدْ عَلِمْتَ، فَمَا تَرَى فِي شَأْنِهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَرْضِعِيهِ» فَأَرْضَعَتُهُ خَمْسَ رَضَعَاتٍ فَيُحَرَّمُ بِهِنَّ وَكَانَ بِمَنْزِلَةِ وَلَدِهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that Abu Hudhayfah bin Utbah bin Rabi'ah bin Abd Shams (may Allah be pleased with him), who was among those who took part in the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), had adopted Salim as a son, just as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had adopted Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him). In the days of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), whoever adopted someone, people would call that person after him, and he would inherit from him, until Allah Almighty revealed concerning this: "Call them by (the names of) their fathers; that is more just in the sight of Allah. But if you do not know their fathers, then they are your brothers in religion and your allies." [Al-Ahzab: 5] So they were returned to (the names of) their fathers, and whoever's father was not known became a mawla (a brother in religion and ally). Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Sayyidah Sahlah bint Suhayl bin Amr al-Qurashiyyah al-Amiriyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), who was married to Abu Hudhayfah bin Utbah bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him), came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when Allah Almighty revealed this ruling and said: O Messenger of Allah, we used to regard Salim as a son; he lived with me and Abu Hudhayfah in one house and would see me in my house clothes, and you know what Allah Almighty has revealed concerning them (adopted sons). So, O Messenger of Allah, what is your view regarding his situation? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "Nurse him." So she nursed him five times, by which he became a mahram, and he became like her son through nursing.
