Abu Bakr bin Abd al-Rahman relates that Marwan bin al-Hakam sent him to Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) to ask her: If a man reaches the morning in a state of major impurity (janabah), should he fast? She said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would reach the morning in a state of janabah from intercourse, not from a wet dream, and he would neither break his fast nor make it up.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna al-Harith bin Hisham (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the year of the Farewell Hajj and said: O Messenger of Allah! I used to maintain the ties of kinship, treat my neighbour well, take care of orphans, and feed guests and the poor, and Hisham bin al-Mughirah used to do all of this as well. So what do you think of him, O Messenger of Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every grave whose occupant did not bear witness that there is no true god except Allah is a burning ember of the Fire. I found my uncle Abu Talib in the deepest depths of the Fire, and Allah brought him out from there because of his kinship with me and his kindness to me, and placed him in a shallow part of the Fire."

Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) proposed marriage to me, I said: I have three traits: I am advanced in age, I am a woman with young children, and I am a woman of intense jealousy. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for the children, their matter rests with Allah and His Messenger; as for the jealousy, I will supplicate to Allah to remove it from you; and as for age, I am older than you." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married her while she was nursing her daughter Zaynab bint Abi Salamah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would come and go but not approach her, and when he came in he would play with her daughter. Then Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) came in and said: Where is this daughter of yours who has kept the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) occupied? So he took her and arranged for her to be nursed in Sa'y. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came in and said: "Where is Zunab?" A woman said: Ammar came and took her away, and arranged for her to be nursed in Sa'y. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went in to his wife.
