حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا أَبِي، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، فِي «تَسْمِيَةِ مَنْ هَاجَرَ إِلَى أَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ مَعَ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدِ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَحْشِ بْنِ رِئَابٍ، مَاتَ بِأَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ نَصْرَانِيًّا وَمَعَهُ أُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، وَاسْمُهَا رَمْلَةُ، فَخَلَّفَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنْكَحَهُ إِيَّاهَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ بِأَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ، وَأُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ أُمُّهَا صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، أُخْتُ عَفَّانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، عَمَّةُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ»
Urwah bin al-Zubayr said: Among those of Banu Asad bin Khuzaymah who emigrated to the land of Abyssinia with Ja'far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) was Ubaydullah bin Jahsh bin Ri'ab, who died in the land of Abyssinia as a Christian, while his wife Umm Habibah bint Abi Sufyan, whose name was Ramlah, was with him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) then took her in marriage, and Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) gave her in marriage to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the land of Abyssinia itself. The mother of Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) was Safiyyah bint Abi al-As, the sister of Affan bin Abi al-As and the paternal aunt of Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him).
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالَا: ثنا يَعْمَرُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، أنا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ، «أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَحْتَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَحْشٍ، وَكَانَ رَحَلَ إِلَى النَّجَاشِيِّ فَمَاتَ، وَأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَزَوَّجَ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ، وَإِنَّهَا لَفِي أَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ، زَوَّجَهَا إِيَّاهُ النَّجَاشِيُّ وَلَمْ يُرْسِلْ إِلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِشَيْءٍ، وَكَانَ مُهُورُ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرْبَعَمِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she was married to Abdullah bin Jahsh, and he went to the Negus (al-Najashi) and died there. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) while she was at that time in the land of Abyssinia. The Negus gave her in marriage to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not send her anything on that occasion. The dowry (mahr) of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was four hundred dirhams.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ الْحَلَبِيُّ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنِيعٍ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: «تَزَوَّجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ بْنِ حَرْبِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ شَمْسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافِ بْنِ قُصَيِّ بْنِ كِلَابِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ لُؤَيِّ بْنِ غَالِبِ بْنِ فِهْرِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، وَاسْمُ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ رَمْلَةُ، وَأَنْكَحَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنَّ أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ أُمُّهَا صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، وَصَفِيَّةُ عَمَّةُ عُثْمَانَ، أُخْتُ عَفَّانَ لِأَبِيهِ وَأُمِّهِ، وَقَدِمَ بِأُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شُرَحْبِيلُ بْنُ حَسَنَةَ»
Imam al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married Umm Habibah bint Abi Sufyan bin Harb bin Umayyah bin Abd Shams bin Abd Manaf bin Qusayy bin Kilab bin Murrah bin Ka'b bin Lu'ayy bin Ghalib bin Fihr bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with her). The name of Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) was Ramlah. Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) gave Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) in marriage to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), because the mother of Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) was Safiyyah bint Abi al-As, and Safiyyah was the full paternal aunt of Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), that is, the full sister of Affan. Shurahbil bin Hasanah brought Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَظِيمِ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ، ثنا النَّضْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، ثنا أَبُو زُمَيْلٍ، ثنا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ، قَالَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: عِنْدِي أَحْسَنُ نِسَاءِ الْعَرَبِ وَأَجْمَلُهُ أُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ بِنْتُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ أُزَوِّجُكَهَا؟، قَالَ: «نَعَمْ» ، قَالَ: وَمُعَاوِيَةُ تَتَّخِذُهُ كَاتِبًا؟، قَالَ: «نَعَمْ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Abu Sufyan said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): I have with me the most beautiful and lovely woman of the Arabs, Umm Habibah bint Abi Sufyan; shall I give her to you in marriage? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." He further said: And will you take Mu'awiyah as your scribe? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes."
