Sayyiduna Abu Khayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I had camels on which I used to carry loads, so I came to Madinah and took part with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Khaybar, or he said: in Hunayn, and we used to carry water for him (peace and blessings be upon him) on our camels. I also had a trade in Madinah, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for blessing (in it) and also prayed for my father.

Sayyiduna Abu Khayrah al-Sabbahi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was in the delegation that came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and we were forty men. He (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us (making nabidh in) gourd vessels, green-glazed jars, hollowed-out wooden vessels and pitch-coated vessels. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) had arak twigs brought for us and said: "Use this as a tooth-stick (miswak)." We said: O Messenger of Allah! We have (our own) herbs and we make do with them. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands and said: "O Allah, forgive Abd al-Qays, for they accepted Islam willingly, not reluctantly."

Sayyiduna Abu Khayrah al-Sabbahi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was in the delegation of Abd al-Qays that came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us arak twigs to use as tooth-sticks. We said: O Messenger of Allah! We also have palm branches, but we accept your honouring of us and your gift. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive Abd al-Qays, for they accepted Islam willingly, without being compelled, while my own people held back and did not accept Islam until they were disgraced, humiliated and defeated."
