حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عِقَالٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْمَلِيحِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، وَكَانَتْ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ إِذَا سَبَقَتْ لَهُ مِنَ اللهِ مَنْزِلَةٌ لَمْ يَبْلُغْهَا بِعَمَلِهِ ابْتَلَاهُ اللهُ فِي جَسَدِهِ وَفِي مَالِهِ وَفِي وَلَدِهِ، ثُمَّ صَبَّرَهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ الْمَنْزِلَةَ الَّتِي سَبَقَتْ لَهُ مِنَ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Khalid al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When a rank has been decreed for a servant by Allah which he cannot reach through his deeds, Allah tests him in his body, his wealth and his children, then grants him patience over that until he reaches the rank that had been decreed for him by Allah."
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْمَلِيحِ، حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ وَكَانَتْ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ أَنَّهُ: خَرَجَ زَائِرًا لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ إِخْوَانِهِ فَلَمْ يَنْتَهِ إِلَيْهِ حَتَّى بَلَغَهُ أَنَّهُ شَاكٍ فَقَالَ: أَتَيْتُكَ زَائِرًا وَأَتَيْتُكَ عَائِدًا وَمُبَشِّرًا، قَالَ: كَيْفَ جَمَعْتَ هَذَا كُلَّهُ؟ قَالَ: خَرَجْتُ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ زِيَارَتَكَ وَبَلَغَنِي شِكَاتُكَ فَكَانَتْ عِيَادَةٌ وَأُبَشِّرُكُ بِشَيْءٍ، سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ النُّفَيْلِيِّ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Khalid al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) that he set out to visit one of his brothers. Before he had reached him, he learned that he was ill, so he said: I came to you to visit, and now I have also come to visit you in your illness and to give you good news. He asked: How did all this come together? He said: I set out intending to visit you, and the news of your illness reached me, so it became a sick visit as well. And I give you good news of something I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) - then he narrated a hadith like that of al-Nufayli.
