Sayyiduna Yazid bin Salamah al-Ju'fi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "I have heard many hadiths from you, and I fear that the first of them will make me forget the last of them; so tell me a comprehensive word (that will suffice for all)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fear Allah in what you know."

Sayyiduna Yazid bin Salamah al-Ju'fi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think if there are rulers over us who take from us the right that is due to them, but withhold from us the right that is due to us (what should we do)?" At this, al-Ash'ath said: "Sit down." He asked the same thing a second time, then a third time, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Upon them is the responsibility placed on them, and upon you is the responsibility placed on you."
