Ibn Maysarah bin Halbas (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) make this supplication in the funeral prayer of a Muslim man: "O Allah, so-and-so is under Your protection and in the shelter of Your nearness, so save him from the trial of the grave and the punishment of Hell; indeed You are the One of faithfulness and truth. O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him; indeed You alone are the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful."

Yunus bin Maysarah bin Halbas (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We went to visit Yazid bin al-Aswad in his illness, and meanwhile Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) also came to him. When he saw him, he stretched out his hand and passed it over his face and chest, and it was the very hand with which he had pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Wathilah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "What do you think of your Lord?" He said: "I think well of Him." He said: "Then rejoice, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Allah Almighty says: 'I am as My servant thinks of Me; if he thinks well, then good, and if he thinks ill, then ill.'"
