Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was in the Suffah, and they were twenty men. Hunger struck us, and I was the youngest of the people, so they sent me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to complain to him of their hunger. He (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards his household and said: "Is there anything?" They said: "Yes, here is a piece of bread and some milk." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring it to me." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) broke the bread into fine pieces, poured the milk over it, then began mixing it with his hand until it became like tharid. Then he said: "O Wathilah, call ten of your companions to me and leave ten behind." I did so. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sit down with Bismillah." When they sat, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) held the top of the tharid (with his hand) and said: "Eat from its sides with Bismillah, for the blessing comes to it from above it, and it is also increased." I saw them eating, picking between their fingers, until they were fully satisfied. When they finished, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Go back to your place and send your companions to me." I stood up, astonished at what I had seen. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to the other ten and instructed them in the same way, and they too ate until they were fully satisfied, and there was still more left in it.
