Muhammad bin Juhadah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates, through Abd al-Jabbar bin Wa'il, from his father that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the prayer, he would raise his hands and say the takbir, then wrap himself in his garment, then place his right hand on the left. When he intended to bow, he would move his garment aside like this and bring out both his hands, then raise them, say the takbir and bow. When he intended to prostrate, his (peace and blessings be upon him) knees would reach the ground before his (peace and blessings be upon him) palms, and when he prostrated he would place his forehead between his two palms and keep his armpits apart from his sides. Hammam said: I think that the hadith of Muhammad bin Juhadah also has: "When he (peace and blessings be upon him) got up, he would rise on his knees and lean on his thighs."

Abd al-Jabbar bin Wa'il (may Allah have mercy on him) relates: I was still a boy and could not understand my father's prayer, so Alqamah bin Wa'il related it to me from our father, Wa'il bin Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) said the takbir, he would raise his hands, then wrap himself in his garment, take hold of his right hand with his left hand, and put his hands inside his garment. When he intended to raise his head from bowing, he would raise his hands, then he would prostrate and place his forehead between his two palms. When he raised his head from prostration, he would raise his hands, until he completed his prayer."
