Sayyiduna Miqdad bin al-Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and "he (peace and blessings be upon him) divided us, ten men to each house, and I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we had a goat that we lived on."

Sayyiduna Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When we settled in Madinah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) divided us into groups of ten in each house. I was among the ten that included the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We had nothing but a goat whose milk we shared among ourselves. Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was late in coming to us, we would drink and keep the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)'s share for him. One night he (peace and blessings be upon him) was late, and we went to sleep. Then Miqdad said: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has been very late; I do not think he (peace and blessings be upon him) will come tonight. Perhaps someone has invited him (peace and blessings be upon him) somewhere. So I drank that milk. When the night had passed, he (peace and blessings be upon him) came and entered. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) entered, he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the greeting of salam, but not loudly. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and went to the cup, and when he (peace and blessings be upon him) found nothing, he (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, feed the one who has fed us tonight." So I jumped up, took the knife and came to him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his hand over the goat's udder, and some milk came out. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) drank and went to sleep.
