حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ قَالَ: بَعَثَ وَفْدٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ فَجَعَلُوا يُثْنُونَ عَلَيْهِ، فَجَعَلَ الْمِقْدَادُ يَحْثُو فِي وُجُوهِهِمُ التُّرَابَ، وَقَالَ: «أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نَحْثُوَ فِي وُجُوهِ الْمَدَّاحِينَ التُّرَابَ»
Sayyiduna Sa'id bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A delegation of people from Iraq was sent to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and they began praising him. Sayyiduna Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) began throwing dust in their faces and said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us to throw dust in the faces of the flatterers."
