Al-Qasim Abu Abd al-Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I was sitting with Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he sent for Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said: What are these hadiths that I have been told you narrate? I had resolved to banish you from Syria. He said: Listen! By Allah, were it not for the women (of my household), I would not like to stay here for even an hour. Then Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked (him): What hadith do you narrate about tila' (cooked grape syrup)? He said: Listen! It is not permissible for me to attribute to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) something he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say. I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever fabricates against me something I did not say, let him take his seat in Hell."
And I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say about wine: "Whoever places it on his palm, no supplication of his is accepted, and whoever persists in drinking it will be given khabal to drink." And khabal is a valley in Hell. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: O Mu'awiyah! I think you too have heard the same as what I heard. The narrator says: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) was about to confirm what he said, but then he kept silent.

Al-Qasim Abu Abd al-Rahman narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to stand on the pulpit one day before Ramadan and say: "The fast begins on such-and-such a day, and we are starting early, so whoever wishes to start early may do so, and whoever wishes to leave it may leave it."
