Sayyiduna Kaysan Abu Nafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he used to trade in wine in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He came from Syria with wine in waterskins that he had brought for trade. He came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have brought fine wine. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Kaysan, it has been made unlawful." Kaysan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Prophet of Allah, shall I then go and sell it? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It has been made unlawful, and its price is unlawful too." So Kaysan went to the waterskins, took hold of them by their legs and poured out all the wine.

Nafi' bin Kaysan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that his father (Kaysan, may Allah be pleased with him) brought wine to Madinah before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made it unlawful, then he came to him (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Abu Rafi', what have you brought?" He said: Wine, O Messenger of Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you not know that it was made unlawful after you left?" He said: Then shall I sell it to the Jews? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who sells it is like the one who drinks it." So Abu Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) slit open his waterskins in al-Batha'.
