It is narrated from Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his Companions: "Will you not pledge allegiance to me?" The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah, we have already pledged allegiance to you once; so on what should we pledge allegiance to you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times, then said: "Pledge allegiance to me that you will not associate anything with Allah, that you will establish the prayer, give the zakah, and listen and obey." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) added one thing quietly: "And that you will not ask people for anything."

Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a tent of leather. He (peace and blessings be upon him) performed a thorough ablution, then said: "O Awf, count six things before the Hour." I said: What are they, O Messenger of Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My death." This grieved me greatly. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: one." I said: One. "The second: the conquest of Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem); the third: a pestilence will spread among you as pestilence spreads among sheep; the fourth: such an abundance of wealth that a man will be given a hundred dinars and will still consider it too little; then a tribulation will arise that will enter every house of the Arabs; and there will be a truce between you and Banu al-Asfar (the Romans), then they will break the covenant and come against you under eighty banners, with twelve thousand troops under each banner."
