It is narrated from Sayyiduna Adi al-Judhami (may Allah be pleased with him) that he met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on one of his journeys and said: O Messenger of Allah! I had two wives; they fought with each other, and I threw (something) at one of them and it killed her. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pay her blood money (diyah), and do not inherit from her." It is as though I can still see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a red she-camel with a cropped ear, saying: "O people! Know that hands are three: the hand of Allah is the uppermost, the hand of the giver is in the middle, and the hand of the receiver is the lowest. So refrain (from asking), even if you must earn by (selling) bundles of firewood. Behold! Have I conveyed? Behold! Have I conveyed?"

Abd al-Rahman bin Harmalah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard a man from the tribe of Judham relate that a man of their tribe, who was called Adi, struck his wife with a stone and she died. Then he went to join the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at Tabuk and explained his case. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Pay her blood money (diyah), and do not inherit from her."
