حَدَّثَنَا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ حَمْزَةَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْهَادِ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أُنَيْسٍ، قَالَ: كُنَّا نَتَدَارَأُ فِي رَمَضَانَ، فَقَالَ قَوْمُنَا: إِنَّهُ يَشُقُّ عَلَيْنَا أَنْ نَنْزِلَ بِعِيَالِنَا وَنِسَائِنَا، وَإِنَّا لَنَخْشَى عَلَيْهِمُ الضَّيْعَةَ إِنْ نَزَلْنَا وَتَرَكْنَاهُمْ، وَإِنَّا نَكْرَهُ أَنْ تَفُوتَنَا هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةُ، فَهَلْ لَكُمْ أَنْ نُرْسِلَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَيَذْكُرُ هَذَا لَهُ وَيَسْأَلُهُ أَنْ يَأْمُرَنَا بِلَيْلَةٍ نَنْزِلُهَا، قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: فَأَرْسَلُونِي وَكُنْتُ أُحَدِّثُهُمْ، فَجِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ ذَلِكَ، وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يَأْمُرَنَا بِلَيْلَةٍ نَنْزِلُهَا، فَقَالَ: «انْزِلُوا لَيْلَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَعِشْرِينَ» . فَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللهِ يَنْزِلُ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ، فَإِذَا أَصْبَحَ رَجَعَ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: We were discussing (this matter) among ourselves in Ramadan, and our people said: It is hard for us to come (to Madinah) with our children and our women, and if we come and leave them behind, we fear they will come to harm; yet we also dislike that this night should pass us by. So would you agree that we send (someone) to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who will mention this to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask him (peace and blessings be upon him) to tell us a night on which we may come? Abdullah said: So they sent me, because I used to talk with them. I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), mentioned this to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and asked him (peace and blessings be upon him) to tell us a night on which we might come (to Madinah). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Come on the twenty-third night." So Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) would come on that night, and when morning came he would go back.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الضِّرَابُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ وَرْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بنِ أُنَيْسٍ، وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أُنَيْسٍ، يَقُولُ: جَلَسْتُ فِي مَجْلِسِ بَنِي سَلِمَةَ وَأَنَا أَصْغَرُهُمْ صَبِيحَةَ إِحْدَى وَعِشْرِينَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ، فَقَالُوا: مَنْ يَسْأَلُ لَنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَتَى لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ؟، فَقُلْتُ: أَنَا، فَذَهَبْتُ حَتَّى وَافَيْتُ عِنْدَ الْمَغْرِبِ لَيْلَةَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَعِشْرِينَ، فَصَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ الصَّلَاةَ، ثُمَّ وَقَفْتُ لَهُ عَلَى بَابِهِ حَتَّى مَرَّ عَلَيَّ، فَأَدْخَلَنِي بَيْتَهُ، فَدَعَا لِي بِعَشَاءٍ، فَقَالَ لِي: «تَعَشَّهْ» ، فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي أَكُفُّ عَنْهُ مِنْ قِلَّتِهِ، ثُمَّ دَعَا بِنَعْلَيْهِ فَقَامَ، فَقَالَ: «كَأَنَّ لَكَ حَاجَةٌ؟» ، قُلْتُ: أَجَلْ أَرْسَلَنِي إِلَيْكَ رِجَالٌ مِنْ بَنِي سَلِمَةَ يَسْأَلُونَكَ مَتَى لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ؟، فَقَالَ: «كَمِ اللَّيْلَةُ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ؟» ، فَقُلْتُ: اثْنَتَانِ وَعِشْرُونَ، فَقَالَ: «هِي اللَّيْلَةُ» ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ، فَقَالَ: «أَوِ الْقَابِلَةُ أَوِ الْقَابِلَةُ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: On the morning of the twenty-first of Ramadan I was sitting in the gathering of Banu Salimah, and I was the youngest of them. They said: Who will ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for us when Laylat al-Qadr is? I said: I (will ask). So I went until I reached (the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)) at the time of Maghrib on the twenty-second night. I prayed with him (peace and blessings be upon him), then I waited for him at his door until he passed by me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) took me into his house, called for food for me and said: "Eat." I saw myself holding back from the food because of how little there was. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) called for his sandals and stood up, and said: "It seems you have some need?" I said: Yes, some men of Banu Salimah have sent me to you; they ask when Laylat al-Qadr is. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What date of the month is it today?" I said: The twenty-second. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is tonight." Then he came back and said: "Or else the coming night, or else the coming night."
