Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that some people of the Ansar said: Who is a man we can send to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Abdullah said: I said: I (will go). They said: Then go and ask him for us when Laylat al-Qadr is. So I set out until, at sunset, I reached one of the houses of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to lead the Maghrib prayer; he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer and came out (of the mosque), and I came out with him (peace and blessings be upon him) until he (peace and blessings be upon him) entered his house, and I was with him (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a little food. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I found myself being called (to the food) by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), owing to the scantiness of the food. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished (eating), he called for his sandals and then said: "I think you have some need." I said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. So-and-so and so-and-so have sent me to you; they ask when Laylat al-Qadr is. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tonight." That night was the twenty-second night of Ramadan. Then he said: "Which night is tonight?" I said: The twenty-second night. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather the coming night, that is, the twenty-third night (is Laylat al-Qadr)."
