It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever drinks wine, his prayer is not accepted for forty nights. Then if he repents, Allah accepts his repentance" (he (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times) "then if he drinks again, it becomes a right upon Allah to make him drink from Nahr al-Khabal." It was said: What is Nahr al-Khabal? He said: "The pus of the people of Hell."

Abdullah bin Ubayd bin Umayr narrated: A man said to Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): O Abu Abd al-Rahman, why is it that I see you touching (istilam) these two corners and never leaving them? And Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to do so. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Touching these two sheds sins away."

And I heard him say: "Whoever drinks wine in this world, his prayer is not accepted for forty nights. Then if he repents, Allah accepts his repentance. Then if he drinks again, his prayer is not accepted for forty nights. Then if he repents, Allah accepts his repentance. Then if he drinks again, his prayer is not accepted for forty nights. Then if he repents, Allah accepts his repentance. Then if he drinks a fourth time, it becomes a right upon Allah to make him drink from 'Tinat al-Khabal'." It was said: What is Tinat al-Khabal? He said: "The pus of the people of Hell."
