Hakim bin Abi Hurrah al-Aslami (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that he heard a man ask Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about a man who had vowed that a certain day would never pass him except that he was fasting on it, and that day coincided with the day of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: You have the best example in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would not fast on the day of Eid al-Adha nor on the day of Eid al-Fitr, nor would he order that they be fasted."

Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard a man asking Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) for a ruling about a man who had vowed on a certain day that this day would never pass him except that he was fasting, and that day coincided with the day of Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to him: You have the best example in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he said: "He ((peace and blessings be upon him)) would not fast on the day of Eid al-Fitr nor on the day of Eid al-Adha, and he did not regard fasting on that day as right."
