Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken on the Night Journey (Isra'), in the morning he (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting in Makkah, alone and grieved. Meanwhile the enemy of Allah, Abu Jahl, came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said mockingly: "Has anything happened?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Last night I was taken to Bayt al-Maqdis." He said: "And then in the morning you are here among us?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." Abu Jahl did not let it show that he was calling him (peace and blessings be upon him) a liar, fearing that if he called his people, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would deny having said it to them. So he said: "What do you think, if I call your people to you, will you tell them what you told me?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." Abu Jahl called out: "O Banu Ka'b bin Lu'ayy, come here!" So the gatherings broke up and came and sat with the two of them. Abu Jahl said: "Tell your people what you told me." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Last night I was taken on a journey." He asked: "To where?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To Bayt al-Maqdis." The people said: "And then in the morning you are here among us?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." At this some people began clapping (in astonishment), and some placed their hands on their heads, amazed, considering it a lie. Among those people were some who had travelled to that mosque (Bayt al-Maqdis) and had seen it, and they said: "Can you describe the mosque to us?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I described it to them, until while describing it some of (the details) became confused for me." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then the mosque was brought before me while I was looking at it, until it was placed near the house of Aqil or the house of Iqal, and I went on describing it while looking at it." At this the people said: "By Allah, as for the description, he has got it (exactly) right."
