It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Learn the Qur'an, for it will intercede for its readers on the Day of Resurrection. Learn Surah al-Baqarah and Surah Al Imran; learn these two radiant surahs, for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as though they were two clouds, or two canopies, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading on behalf of their reader. And learn Surah al-Baqarah, for learning it is a blessing and abandoning it is a cause of regret, and the sorcerers cannot withstand it." By "batalah" he (peace and blessings be upon him) meant sorcerers.

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us to learn the Qur'an, urged us to it and said: "Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection the Qur'an will come to its people at the time when they are most in need of it, and it will say to the Muslim: Do you recognise me? He will say: Who are you? It will say: I am the one you used to love, the one who used to drag you along and bring you near to Allah; you disliked being parted from him. He will say: Perhaps you are the Qur'an? Then he will be presented before his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, and he will be given sovereignty in his right hand and eternity in his left hand, tranquillity (sakinah) will be placed on his head, and his parents will be clothed in two garments which the whole world could not equal even many times over. They will both say: Why have we been clothed in these, when our deeds did not reach this level? It will be said: This is because your child learned the Qur'an."
