Al-Hakam bin Fadalah said: I asked Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), and the work of those who collect the charity was mentioned before him, so he said: "Charity is a duty, and its collectors will be in the Fire; this is the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."

Al-Hakam bin Fadalah said: I entered the mosque of Hims and saw Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) in it removing lice (from his clothes) and burying them there. So I sat with him. He said Subhan Allah three times, Allahu Akbar three times and Alhamdulillah three times, then said: These words are light on the tongue and heavy in the Balance; they ascend to the Most Merciful. I said: O Abu Umamah! I am one of the people of the desert (badiyah), and the charity collectors used to transgress against us. He said: "Charity is a duty, and its agents (the collectors) will be in the Fire." This is the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whether the collector falls short or oversteps, bring your wealth willingly, and do not hide anything of it, for whatever you hide will become impure; and when you see them (transgressing), do not revile them, but seek refuge with Allah from their evil."
