It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you rinses his mouth, whatever (sin) had touched his mouth falls away; when he washes his face, whatever had touched his face falls away; when he washes his hands, whatever had touched his hands falls away; and when he washes his feet, whatever had touched his feet falls away." At this a man said: O Abu Umamah, look at what you are narrating! We kept the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), yet we never heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) say what you are saying. Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Had I heard it only once or twice, I would not have narrated it."

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with her children. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked his household (for something to eat), and only three dates were found, which he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave to her. She gave each child a date and kept one for herself. Her children began to cry, so she took that date and split it into two halves, giving half to one and half to the other. At this the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Women who carry, give birth, nurse and are merciful to their children: were it not for (some of) their shortcomings towards their husbands, those among them who pray would (all) enter Paradise."

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with her children, one of whom she was nursing, and she asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (for something). He (peace and blessings be upon him) searched but found nothing to give her, until three dates were found with one of his (peace and blessings be upon him) wives. She gave one date to one child and one to the other, and kept one date for herself. Then one of the two children began to cry, so she split that date too into two halves, giving half to one and half to the other. At this the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Women who carry, give birth, nurse and are merciful to their children: were it not for (some of) their shortcomings towards their husbands, those among them who pray would enter Paradise."
