حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ، ح وثَنًا أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَابْلُتِّيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عَمَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أُمَامَةَ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ، فَأَعْرَضَ عَنْهُ، فَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ، فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ قَالَ: «هَلْ تَوَضَّأْتَ؟» قَالَ: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: «فَهَلْ صَلَّيْتَ حِينَ صَلَّيْنَا؟» قَالَ: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: «اذْهَبْ، فَقَدْ عَفَا اللهُ عَنْكَ»
Abu Ammar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have committed an offence liable to a legal punishment (hadd), so carry it out upon me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from him. Then he said: I have committed an offence liable to a hadd, so carry it out upon me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) again turned away. Then he said: O Messenger of Allah, I have committed an offence liable to a hadd, so carry it out upon me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) again turned away. Meanwhile the prayer was called to begin, and when he (peace and blessings be upon him) concluded with the salam, the man again said: O Messenger of Allah, I have committed an offence liable to a hadd, so carry it out upon me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Did you perform ablution?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Did you pray with us when we prayed?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go, Allah has pardoned you."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ سُورَةَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، ومُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ التَّمَّارُ الْبَصْرِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ، وعُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنِي شَدَّادٌ أَبُو عَمَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أُمَامَةَ، قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا أَنَا قَاعِدٌ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ، إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا، فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ، فَسَكَتَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ، فَأَعَادَ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا، فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ. قَالَ: أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ، فَدَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ، وَخَرَجَ قَالَ شَدَّادٌ، فَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أُمَامَةَ، قَالَ: إِنِّي لَأَمْشِي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ، وَالرَّجُلُ يَتْبَعُهُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا، فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ: «حِينَ خَرَجْتَ مِنْ بَيْتِكَ تَوَضَّأْتَ، فَأَحْسَنْتَ؟» قَالَ: بَلَى. قَالَ: «وَشَهِدَتَ الصَّلَاةَ مَعَنَا؟» قَالَ: بَلَى، قَالَ: «فَإِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ غَفَرَ لَكَ حَدَّكَ» أَوْ قَالَ: «دَيْنَكَ»
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I was sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a hadd (offence), so carry it out upon me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. He repeated it and said: I have committed a hadd (offence), so carry it out upon me. (The narrator) said: Meanwhile the prayer was called to begin; the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered (the mosque) and (after the prayer) came out. Shaddad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Then Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me: I was walking with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the man was following him (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a hadd (offence), so carry it out upon me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "When you left your house, did you perform ablution well?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "And did you attend the prayer with us?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then indeed Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has forgiven your hadd (sin), or he said: your debt."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارِ بْنِ الرَّيَّانِ، ثنا عَنْبَسَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا قُرَادُ أَبُو نُوحٍ، ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، عَنْ شَدَّادٍ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ يَقُولُ: «إِنْ تَبْذُلَ الْفَضْلَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ، وَإِنْ تُمْسِكْهُ شَرٌّ لَكَ، وَلَا يُلَامُ عَلَى الْكَفَافِ، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ، وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى»
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "If you spend your surplus, it is better for you, and if you withhold it, it is bad for you. There is no blame for (keeping) what is sufficient. Begin with those you support, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الرُّومِيِّ، ثنا النَّضْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ، عَنْ شَدَّادٍ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ، قَالَ: «الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The upper hand is better than the lower hand."
حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، أَنَّ شَدَّادًا أَبَا عَمَّارٍ، حَدَّثَهُ، ثنا أَبُو أُمَامَةَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ يَقُولُ: «لَا يَلْبَسِ الْحَرِيرَ فِي الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ»
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "No one wears silk in this world except one who has no share (in the Hereafter)."
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عِقَالٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الطَّرَائِفِيُّ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ، عَنْ هُودِ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ شَدَّادًا أَبَا عَمَّارٍ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ يَقُولُ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَرَأَيْتَ رَجُلًا يَلْتَمِسُ الْخَيْرَ وَالذِّكْرَ مَا لَهُ؟ قَالَ: «لَا شَيْءَ لَهُ» - يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ - «إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَا يَقْبَلُ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ إِلَّا مَا خَلَصَ لَهُ، وَابْتُغِيَ بِهِ وَجْهُهُ»
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about a man who seeks both reward and fame; what will he get? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He will get nothing." He (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this three times. "Indeed, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, accepts of deeds only that which is purely for Him and by which His Countenance is sought."
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمِصْرِيُّ الْأُبُلِّيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، ثنا جَسْرُ بْنُ فَرْقَدٍ، ثنا النَّهَّاسُ بْنُ قَهْمٍ الْقَيْسِيُّ، عَنْ شَدَّادٍ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ، رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ يَقُولُ: " لَمَّا بَلَغَ وَلَدُ مَعْدِ بْنِ عَدْنَانَ أَرْبَعِينَ رَجُلًا، وَقَفُوا عَلَى عَسْكَرِ مُوسَى صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ وَانْتَهَبُوهُ، فَدَعَا عَلَيْهِمْ مُوسَى بْنُ عِمْرَانَ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ، قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ هَؤُلَاءِ وَلَدُ مَعْدٍ قَدْ أَغَارُوا عَلَى عَسْكَرِي، فَأَوْحَى اللهُ إِلَيْهِ، يَا مُوسَى بْنَ عِمْرَانَ، لَا تَدْعُوا عَلَيْهِمْ، فَإِنَّ مِنْهُمِ النَّبِيَّ الْأُمِّيَّ النَّذِيرَ الْبَشِيرَ بِجَنَّتِي، وَمِنْهُمِ الْأُمَّةَ الْمَرْحُومَةَ أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ الَّذِينَ يَرْضَوْنَ مِنَ اللهِ بِالْيَسِيرِ مِنَ الرِّزْقِ، وَيَرْضَى اللهُ مِنْهُمْ بِالْقَلِيلِ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ، فَيُدْخِلُهُمُ اللهُ الْجَنَّةَ بِقَوْلِ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، لِأَنَّ نَبِيَّهُمْ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ الْمُتَوَاضِعَ فِي هَيْئَتِهِ، الْمُجْتَمِعَ لَهُ اللُّبُّ فِي سُكُوتِهِ يَنْطِقُ بِالْحِكْمَةِ، وَيَسْتَعْمِلُ الْحِلْمَ، أَخْرَجْتُهُ مِنْ خَيْرِ جِيلٍ مِنْ أُمَّتِهِ قُرَيْشًا، ثُمَّ أَخْرَجْتُهُ مِنْ هَاشِمٍ صَفْوَةِ قُرَيْشٍ، فَهُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ خَيْرٍ إِلَى خَيْرٍ يَصِيرُ، وَأُمَّتُهُ إِلَى خَيْرٍ يَصِيرُونَ "
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "When the descendants of Ma'add bin Adnan reached forty men, they attacked the camp of Musa (peace be upon him) and plundered it. So Musa bin Imran (peace be upon him) invoked against them and said: O my Lord, these are the descendants of Ma'add, who have raided my camp. Allah revealed to him: O Musa bin Imran! Do not invoke against them, for from them will come the unlettered Prophet, the warner and the bearer of glad tidings of My Paradise, and from them will come the nation that is shown mercy, the nation of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who will be content with little provision from Allah, and Allah will be pleased with little deeds from them. Allah will admit them into Paradise for saying La ilaha illallah (there is no god but Allah), because their Prophet, Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abd al-Muttalib, will be humble in his bearing, composed in his silence, speaking wisdom and practising forbearance. I brought him forth from the best tribe of his nation, Quraysh, then I brought him forth from Banu Hashim, the choicest of Quraysh. So they are the best of the best and are heading toward the best, and his nation too is heading toward goodness."
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي يَحْيَى الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ يُونُسَ الْيَمَامِيُّ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ شَدَّادٍ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ، قَالَ: «مَا زَالَ جِبْرِيلُ يُوصِينِي بِالْجَارِ حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ سَيُوَرِّثُهُ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibril kept urging me to treat the neighbour well until I thought he would make him an heir."
