Sayyiduna Sa'sa'ah bin Najiyah al-Mujashi'i (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the grandfather of the poet al-Farazdaq bin Ghalib bin Sa'sa'ah, said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) presented Islam to me, so I became a Muslim, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me some verses of the Qur'an. I said: O Messenger of Allah, I did some deeds in the time of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah); will I have a reward for them? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What did you do?" I said: Two pregnant she-camels of mine went missing, and I set out on a camel of mine to search for them. Two tents appeared before me in an open plain, so I headed towards them. In one of the tents I found an old man, and I asked: Have you come across any trace of two pregnant she-camels? He said: What brand was on them? I said: The mark of Banu Darim. He said: We have found your two she-camels; we have had them give birth and have raised them, and through them Allah has supported a household of your people among the Arabs, from the tribe of Mudar. While he was still talking to me, a woman called out from the other tent: She (the woman) has given birth. The old man said: What has she given birth to? If it is a boy, he has become a partner in our people, and if it is a girl, we will bury her. She said: It is a girl. I asked: What is this one who is to be buried alive? He said: She is my daughter. I said: I will buy her from you. He said: O brother of Banu Tamim, are you saying to me, "Will you sell your daughter?" when I have told you that I am a man of the Arabs, of the tribe of Mudar? I said: I am not buying her body from you; rather, I am buying her life, so that you do not kill her. He said: With what will you buy her? I said: With these two she-camels of mine and their offspring. He said: And will you give me this camel of yours in addition? I said: Yes, on the condition that you send a messenger with me; when I reach my family, I will send the camel back to you. He did so, and when I reached my family, I sent his camel back. Then, when part of the night had passed, I thought to myself that this was a great noble deed in which no one among the Arabs had preceded me. And (then) Islam appeared, and by that time I had saved three hundred and sixty girls who were to be buried alive, buying each of them for two pregnant she-camels and a camel. So will I have any reward for that? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will have its reward, since Allah has favoured you with Islam." Ubadah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The confirmation of Sa'sa'ah's words is this verse of al-Farazdaq:
And my grandfather is the one who stopped those who buried (daughters) alive, so he gave life to the one to be buried alive, and she was not buried.

Sayyiduna Sa'sa'ah bin Najiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, sometimes I have some surplus (wealth) left over, which I keep aside for a calamity or for a traveller. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give to your mother and father, then to your sister and brother, then to whoever is closest to you, then to whoever is closest to you."
