Al-Ju'ayd bin Abdul Rahman said: Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), a sa' was equal to one mudd and a third by your mudd of today; then it was increased in the time of Umar bin Abdul Aziz. The narrator said: And Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: I was taken on Hajj in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when I was a boy.

Al-Ju'ayd bin Abdul Rahman said: I heard Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) say: My maternal aunt took me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, my sister's son is ill. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his hand over my head and supplicated for blessing for me, then he performed ablution, and I drank the water of his (peace and blessings be upon him) ablution. Then I stood behind his (peace and blessings be upon him) back, and I saw the Seal of Prophethood between his (peace and blessings be upon him) shoulders, like the button of a canopy.

Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and in some of the early time of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), we did not flog for wine, until people went to excess in it. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) flogged with eighty lashes, but still they did not desist, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) kept the punishment fixed at eighty lashes and said: When a man is intoxicated, he makes false accusations against people and utters slander.

Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The people said: O Messenger of Allah, this man has stolen the saddle-cloth of a camel or of a riding animal. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not think he did it." Then they said: O Messenger of Allah, he has stolen. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not think he did it." Eventually the man testified against himself repeatedly, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take him away and cut off his hand, then bring him to me." So they cut off his hand and then brought him to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Woe to you! Repent to Allah." He said: I repent to Allah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, accept his repentance."

Ju'ayd bin Abdur-Rahman narrates: I was with Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) when Zubayr bin Suhayl bin Abdur-Rahman bin Awf came to him, and there was a mark of prostration on his face. When he saw him, he asked: Who is this? It was said: It is Zubayr. He said: He has spoiled his face. Listen, by Allah! This is not the mark which Allah has mentioned in the Qur'an. I have prostrated on my face for eighty years, and yet prostration has not left any mark between my eyes.
