حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، وَأَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ، عَنْ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ سَبْرَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «مَا وَلَدُكَ؟» قَالَ: عَبْدُ الْعُزَّى وَسَبْرَةُ وَالْحَارِثُ، فَقَالَ: «لَا تُسَمِّ عَبْدَ الْعُزَّى» ، فَسَمَّاهُ عَبْدَ اللهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «إِنَّ خَيْرَ الْأَسْمَاءِ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ» وَدَعَا لَهُ وَلِوَلَدِهِ، فَلَمْ يَزَالُوا فِي شَرَفٍ إِلَى الْيَوْمِ قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ: خَيْثَمَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ مِنْهُمْ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sabrah bin Abi Sabrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that his father came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What children do you have?" He said: Abd al-Uzza, Sabrah and al-Harith. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not name (anyone) Abd al-Uzza." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) named him Abdullah, then said: "The best names are Abdullah and Abd al-Rahman." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for him and for his children, and they have remained in honour and nobility to this day. Abu Muhammad al-Hajjaj bin al-Minhal says: Khaythamah bin Abd al-Rahman is one of them.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ (ح) ، وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نَاجِيَةَ، ثنا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ الْقَطِيعِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ، عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ أَرْطَاةَ، عَنْ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ سَبْرَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ
The same report is likewise narrated from Sayyiduna Sabrah bin Abi Sabrah (may Allah be pleased with him).
