حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ يَزِيدِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، قَالَ: " سَحَرَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ فَاشْتَكَى لِذَلِكَ أَيَّامًا، فَأَتَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْيَهُودِ سَحَرَكَ عَقَدَ لَكَ عُقَدًا، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، فَاسْتَخْرَجَهَا فَجَاءَ بِهَا فَجَعَلَ كُلَّمَا حَلَّ عُقْدَةً وَجَدَ لِذَلِكَ خِفَّةً، فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَأَنَّمَا نَشِطَ مِنْ عِقَالٍ، فَمَا ذَكَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَلِكَ الْيَهُودِيَّ وَلَا رَآهُ فِي وَجْهِهِ قَطُّ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: A man from the Jews cast magic on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), because of which he (peace and blessings be upon him) remained ill for several days. Then Jibril (peace be upon him) came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "A man from the Jews has cast magic on you; he has tied some knots against you." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) for it, and he took out those knots and brought them. Each time he (peace and blessings be upon him) untied a knot, he felt that much lighter, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up as though he had been released from a tether. After that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never mentioned that Jew, nor did he (the Jew) ever see any (trace) of it in his (peace and blessings be upon him) face.
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا ابْنُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his abode in Hell."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ التَّيْمِيِّ، حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ التَّيْمِيُّ، قَالَ: انْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَحُصَيْنُ بْنُ سَبْرَةَ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ إِلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعَتْ أُذُنَاي وَوَعَاهُ قَلْبِي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ»
Yazid bin Hayyan al-Taymi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: Husayn bin Sabrah, Amr bin Muslim and I went to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: My ears heard, and my heart retained, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his abode in Hell."
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَأَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، قَالَ: سَمِعَتْ أُذُنَاي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: My ears heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his abode in Hell."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his abode in Hell."
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، قَالَ: أَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ، فَقَالَ: مَا أَحَادِيثُ تَبْلُغُنَا عَنْكَ، تَرْوِيهَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا نَجِدُهَا فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ؟ تَرْوِي أَنَّ لِمُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَوْضًا؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: قَدْ حَدَّثَنَا ذَلِكَ وَوَعَدَنَاهُ، قَالَ: كَذَبْتَ، وَلَكِنَّكَ شَيْخٌ قَدْ خَرِفْتَ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: أَمَا إِنِّي قَدْ سَمِعَتْهُ أُذُنَاي وَوَعَاهُ قَلْبِي يَقُولُ: «مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنْ جَهَنَّمَ» فَمَا كَذَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ
Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Ubaydullah bin Ziyad sent for me, and I came to him, and he said: "What are these hadiths that reach us from you, which you narrate from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and which we do not find in the Book of Allah? You narrate that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has a Pond (Hawd)?" I said: "We were told this, and it was promised to us." He said: "You have lied; rather, you are an old man who has become senile." I said: "Listen! My ears heard him (peace and blessings be upon him), and my heart retained, him (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: 'Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his abode in Hell.' So I have not lied about him (peace and blessings be upon him)."
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ، ثنا يَحْيَى، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ التَّيْمِيِّ، حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ التَّيْمِيُّ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، قَالَ: بَعَثَ إِلَيَّ عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ: " مَا أَحَادِيثُ تَبْلُغُنَا عَنْكَ تُحَدِّثُ بِهَا فَتَرْوِيها عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ تَزْعُمُ أَنَّ لَهُ حَوْضًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ؟ قُلْتُ: قَدْ حَدَّثَنَا ذَلِكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَوَعَدَنَاهُ "، قَالَ: كَذَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّكَ شَيْخٌ قَدْ خَرِفْتَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: Ubaydullah bin Ziyad sent for me and said: "What are these hadiths that reach us from you, which you narrate from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Do you claim that he (peace and blessings be upon him) has a Pond (Hawd) in Paradise?" I said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told us this and promised it." حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ حَيَّانَ التَّيْمِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ، وَقِيلَ لَهُ: مَنَ آلُ مُحَمَّدٍ؟ قَالَ: «مَنْ تَحْرُمُ عَلَيْهِ الصَّدَقَةُ؟» قِيلَ: مَنْ هُمْ؟ قَالَ: «آلُ عَلِيٍّ وَآلُ عَقِيلٍ وَآلُ جَعْفَرٍ وَآلُ الْعَبَّاسِ»
Yazid bin Hayyan al-Taymi narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was asked: "Who are the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He said: "Those for whom charity (sadaqah) is forbidden." It was asked: "Who are they?" He said: "The family of Ali, the family of Aqil, the family of Ja'far and the family of al-Abbas."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ السَّقَطِيُّ، ثنا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ، مَنَ آلُ مُحَمَّدٍ؟ قَالَ: «هُمْ آلُ عَلِيٍّ وَآلُ الْعَبَّاسِ وَآلُ جَعْفَرٍ وَآلُ عَقِيلٍ»
Yazid bin Hayyan narrates: I asked Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him): Who are the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: "They are the family of Ali, the family of Abbas, the family of Ja'far and the family of Aqil."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ الْمَازِنِيُّ، ثنا كَثِيرُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثنا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنِّي تَارِكٌ فِيكُمُ الثَّقَلَيْنِ، كِتَابَ اللهِ وَعِتْرَتِي، فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ تَخْلُفُونِي فِيهِمَا» قُلْنَا: وَمَنْ أَهْلُ بَيْتِهِ؟ قَالَ: «آلُ عَلِيٍّ وَآلُ جَعْفَرٍ وَآلُ عَقِيلٍ وَآلُ الْعَبَّاسٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am leaving among you two weighty trusts: the Book of Allah and my family ('itrah). So see how you treat them after me." We asked: Who are his (peace and blessings be upon him) Ahl al-Bayt (household)? He said: "The family of Ali, the family of Ja'far, the family of Aqil and the family of Abbas."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ الْمَازِنِيُّ، ثنا كَثِيرُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثنا حَسَّانُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْرُوقٍ، أَوْ سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، قَالَ: دَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ، فَقُلْنَا: لَقَدْ رَأَيْتَ خَيْرًا، أَصَحِبْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَصَلَّيْتَ خَلْفَهُ، قَالَ: لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ خَيْرًا، وَخَشِيتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ إِنَّمَا أُخِّرْتُ لِشِرٍّ، مَا حَدَّثَكُمْ فَاقْبَلُوا، وَمَا سَكَتَ عَنْهُ فَدَعُوهُ، قَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِوَادٍ بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ، فَخَطَبَنَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «أَنَا بِشْرٌ يُوشِكُ أَنْ أُدْعَى فَأُجِيبَ، وَإِنِّي تَارِكٌ فِيكُمُ اثْنَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا كِتَابُ اللهِ فِيهِ حَبَلُ اللهِ، مَنِ اتَّبَعَهُ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَى، وَمَنْ تَرَكَهُ كَانَ عَلَى ضَلَالَةٍ، وَأَهْلُ بَيْتِي؟ أُذَكِّرُكُمُ اللهَ فِي أَهْلِ بَيْتِي» ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، فَقُلْنَا: مَنْ أَهْلُ بَيْتِهِ نِسَاؤُهُ؟ قَالَ: «لَا، إِنَّ الْمَرْأَةَ قَدْ يَكُونُ يَتَزَوَّجُ بِهَا الرَّجُلُ الْعَصْرَ مِنَ الدَّهْرِ، ثُمَّ يُطَلِّقُهَا فَتَرْجِعُ إِلَى أَبِيهَا وَأُمِّهَا، أَهْلُ بَيْتِهِ أَهْلُهُ وَعَصَبَتُهُ الَّذِينَ حُرِمُوا الصَّدَقَةَ بَعْدَهُ، آلُ عَلِيٍّ وَآلُ الْعَبَّاسِ وَآلُ جَعْفَرٍ وَآلُ عَقِيلٍ»
Yazid bin Hayyan al-Taymi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: We went to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: You have seen great good; you were a companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and prayed behind him. He said: Indeed I have seen good, and I also fear that I may have been held back (in life) only for some evil. Whatever he (the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him) tells you, accept it, and whatever he is silent about, leave it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood in a valley between Makkah and Madinah and addressed us, then said: "I am a human being; soon I will be called and I will answer. And I am leaving among you two things: one of them is the Book of Allah, in which is the rope of Allah; whoever follows it is upon guidance, and whoever abandons it is upon misguidance. And my Ahl al-Bayt? I remind you of Allah concerning my Ahl al-Bayt." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times. We said: Are his (peace and blessings be upon him) Ahl al-Bayt his wives? He said: "No. A woman may remain married to a man for a period of time, then he divorces her and she returns to her father and mother. His (peace and blessings be upon him) Ahl al-Bayt are his (peace and blessings be upon him) family and those relatives for whom charity was made unlawful after him (peace and blessings be upon him): the family of Ali, the family of Abbas, the family of Ja'far and the family of Aqil."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَنْشُدُكُمُ اللهَ فِي أَهْلِ بَيْتِي» قُلْنَا لِزَيْدَ: وَمَنْ أَهْلُ بَيْتِهِ؟ قَالَ: «الَّذِينَ يُحْرَمُونَ الصَّدَقَةَ، آلُ عَلِيٍّ وَآلُ الْعَبَّاسِ وَآلُ عَقِيلٍ وَآلُ جَعْفَرٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I remind you of Allah concerning my Ahl al-Bayt." We asked Zayd: Who are his (peace and blessings be upon him) Ahl al-Bayt? He said: "Those for whom charity was made unlawful: the family of Ali, the family of Abbas, the family of Aqil and the family of Ja'far."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حُصَيْنٍ الْقَاضِي، ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، جَمِيعًا، عَنْ أَبِي حَيَّانَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، قَالَ: انْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَحُصَيْنُ بْنُ سَبْرَةَ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ إِلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، فَلَمَّا جَلَسْنَا إِلَيْهِ قَالَ لَهُ حُصَيْنُ بْنُ سَبْرَةَ: يَا زَيْدُ، رَأَيْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسَمِعْتَ حَدِيثَهُ وَغَزَوْتَ مَعَهُ، لَقَدْ أَصَبْتَ يَا زَيْدُ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا، حَدِّثْنَا يَا زَيْدُ مَا شَهِدْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَا سَمِعْتَ، قَالَ: يَا ابْنَ أَخِي، وَاللهِ لَقَدْ كَبِرَتْ سِنِّي وَقَدِمَ عَهْدِي، وَنَسِيتُ بَعْضَ الَّذِي كُنْتُ أَعِي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَمَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ فَاقْبَلُوهُ وَمَا لَمْ أُحَدِّثْكُمُوهُ فَلَا تُكَلِّفُونِيهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: قَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا فِينَا خَطِيبًا بِمَاءٍ يُدْعَى: خُمٌّ بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ، فَحَمِدَ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ وَوَعَظَ وَذَكَرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ: «أَمَّا بَعْدُ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بِشْرٌ يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَأْتِنِي رَسُولُ رَبِّي فَأُجِيبَهُ، وَإِنِّي تَارِكٌ فِيكُمُ الثَّقَلَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا كِتَابُ اللهِ فِيهِ الْهُدَى وَالنُّورُ فَخُذُوا بِكِتَابِ اللهِ وَاسْتَمْسِكُوا بِهِ» فَحَثَّ عَلَى كِتَابِ اللهِ وَرَغَّبَ فِيهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: «أَهْلُ بَيْتِي أُذَكِّرُكُمُ اللهَ فِي أَهْلِ بَيْتِي» قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا قَالَ لَهُ حُصَيْنٌ: مَنْ أَهْلُ بَيْتِهِ يَا زَيْدُ، أَلَيْسَ نِسَاؤُهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ؟ قَالَ: «إِنَّ نِسَاءَهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ، وَلَكِنَّ أَهْلَ بَيْتِهِ مَنْ حُرِمَ الصَّدَقَةَ بَعْدَهُ» ، قَالَ: وَمَنْ هُمْ؟ قَالَ: «هُمْ آلُ عَلِيٍّ وَآلُ جَعْفَرٍ وَآلُ الْعَبَّاسِ وَآلُ عَقِيلٍ» قِيلَ: كُلُّ هَؤُلَاءِ حَرَّمَ الصَّدَقَةَ، قَالَ: «نَعَمْ»
Yazid bin Hayyan (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I, Husayn bin Sabrah and Umar bin Muslim went to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him). When we sat with him, Husayn bin Sabrah said to him: O Zayd! You saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), heard his (peace and blessings be upon him) words and took part in battles with him (peace and blessings be upon him). O Zayd! You have attained much good. O Zayd! Tell us what you witnessed and heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: O my nephew! By Allah, I have grown old, my time is long past, and I have forgotten some of what I used to retain from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So whatever I narrate to you, accept it, and whatever I do not narrate, do not burden me with it. Then he said: One day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to address us at a watering place called Khumm, which lies between Makkah and Madinah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) praised and extolled Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, gave admonition and reminded (us), then said: "To proceed: O people! I am only a human being; soon the messenger of my Lord will come to me and I will respond to his call. And I am leaving among you two weighty trusts: one of them is the Book of Allah, in which is guidance and light, so take hold of the Book of Allah and cling to it firmly." He (peace and blessings be upon him) urged (people) towards the Book of Allah and encouraged it, then said: "My Ahl al-Bayt! I remind you of Allah concerning my Ahl al-Bayt." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times. Husayn asked him: O Zayd! Who are his (peace and blessings be upon him) Ahl al-Bayt? Are his (peace and blessings be upon him) wives not among his (peace and blessings be upon him) Ahl al-Bayt? He said: "His (peace and blessings be upon him) wives are also among his (peace and blessings be upon him) Ahl al-Bayt, but his (peace and blessings be upon him) Ahl al-Bayt are those for whom charity was made unlawful after him (peace and blessings be upon him)." He asked: Who are they? He said: "They are the family of Ali, the family of Ja'far, the family of Abbas and the family of Aqil." It was asked: Was charity made unlawful for all of these? He said: "Yes."

Yazid bin Hayyan narrates: I asked Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him): Who are the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: "The family of Ali, the family of Abbas, the family of Aqil and the family of Ja'far."
