Abdullah bin Buraydah (may Allah have mercy on him) relates: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) sent for Daghfal and asked him about the Arabic language, the genealogies of people and the stars, and he turned out to be a scholar (of these sciences). He said: "O Daghfal, where did you memorise this from?" He said: "I memorised it with a tongue that asks much and a heart that understands well, and the bane of knowledge is forgetfulness." He said: "Then take Yazid and teach him Arabic, the genealogies of Quraysh and the stars."

Daghfal bin Hanzalah relates: Fasting the month of Ramadan was obligatory upon the Christians. They had a king who fell ill, and he said: "If Allah grants me recovery, I will certainly add ten days (to it)." Then after him they had another king; he ate meat and fell ill, and he said: "If Allah grants me recovery, I will certainly add eight days (to it)." Then after him they had another king, and he said: "We will not leave out any of these days, but rather complete them, and we will keep our fast in the season of spring." So he did that, and it became fifty days.
