Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed with me for a month, and I saw that when the sun declined - or passed the meridian, or as he said - if he was engaged in some worldly task he would leave it, and if he was asleep it was as though he had been woken up. Then he would get up and take a ritual bath (ghusl) or perform ablution (wudu), then pray four rak'ahs, which he would complete, perform excellently and be at ease in. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to leave (my house), I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I see that when the sun declines or passes the meridian, if you have some worldly task in hand you leave it, or if you are asleep it is as though you are woken up; then you take a ritual bath or perform ablution, then pray four rak'ahs which you complete, are at ease in and perform excellently?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "At that hour the gates of the sky - or the gates of Paradise - are opened, and at that time no one is performing this prayer, so I love that some good deed should ascend from me to my Lord at that hour."

Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed with me, I said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, I dislike that I should be above you and you below me." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is easier for us to stay below, so that it is easy for the people who come to visit us." Once a jar of ours broke and its water spilled, so Umm Ayyub and I dried the water with a wrap of ours - we had no other covering besides it - for fear that some of it might reach the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and trouble him. We used to prepare food, and when what remained of it was sent back, we would look for the marks of his fingers and eat from there, intending blessing. One night he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent back his food, and we had put garlic or onion in it, and we did not find the marks of his fingers in it. I mentioned to him what we used to do, and that we had seen that he sent the food back and did not eat. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I perceived from it the smell of this plant, and I am a man who converses in private (with the angel), so I do not like that its smell should be found on me. But as for you, eat it."
