Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to have a pulpit placed in the mosque for Sayyiduna Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), upon which he would recite poetry. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, strengthen him with the Holy Spirit (Ruh al-Qudus) as long as he defends Your Prophet."

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Satirise Quraysh, for it is harder on them than a shower of arrows." He (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for Ibn Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Satirise them." He satirised them, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) was not satisfied. Then he sent for Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), then he sent for Sayyiduna Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him). When Hassan came in, he said: It is time for you to send for this lion that strikes with its tail. Then he put out his tongue and began moving it, and said: By the One who sent you with the truth! I will tear them apart as leather is torn. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not be hasty, for Abu Bakr knows the lineages of Quraysh best, and I too have lineage among them, until my lineage is distinguished for you." So Hassan went to him (Abu Bakr), then came back and said: O Messenger of Allah! Your lineage has been distinguished for me. By the One who sent you with the truth! I will draw you out from them as a hair is drawn out of dough. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say to Hassan: "The Holy Spirit (Ruh al-Qudus) will continue to support you as long as you defend Allah and His Messenger." She said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Hassan satirised them, so he brought healing (to the believers) and was healed himself." Sayyiduna Hassan (may Allah be pleased with him) composed these verses:
"You satirised Muhammad, so I answered on his behalf, and with Allah is the reward for that.
You satirised Muhammad, the righteous, the upright in faith, the Messenger of Allah, whose nature is faithfulness.
Indeed my father, his father and my honour are a shield for the honour of Muhammad against you all.
May I lose my little daughter if you do not see them raising dust from the two flanks of Kada'.
They pull at the reins as they climb, upon their shoulders thirsty spears.
Our swift horses keep racing, and the women brush them with their head-cloths.
If you turn away from us, we will perform Umrah, and the conquest will come and the veil will be lifted.
Otherwise, be ready for the blows of a day in which Allah honours whomever He wills.
And Allah said: I have sent a servant who speaks the truth, in which there is nothing hidden.
And Allah said: I have prepared an army; they are the Ansar, whose aim is to meet (the enemy).
Every day they face from the tribes of Ma'add abuse, fighting or satire.
So whoever of you satirises the Messenger of Allah, and whoever praises him and supports him - both are equal (to us).
And Jibril, the messenger of Allah, is among us, and the Holy Spirit has no equal."

Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by a gathering of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyiduna Hassan bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) was reciting his poetry to them, while they were not showing much eagerness in listening to it. So Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) sat with them and said: What is the matter, that I see you listening half-heartedly to the poetry of Ibn al-Furay'ah (Hassan), when he used to present poetry like this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would listen to it well and reward him generously for it, and nothing would distract him from it? Then Sayyiduna Hassan (may Allah be pleased with him) composed these verses:
"His disciple (hawari) stood firm upon the covenant and guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and word is weighed by deed.
He stood firm upon his path and his way, befriending the friend of the truth, and the truth is most just.
He is the famed horseman and the hero who charges when a hard day is faced.
When war bares its shin, he kindles it with a white sword that races ahead towards death and sweeps proudly along.
And he is a man whose mother was Safiyyah, and who, from (the clan of) Asad, is one in whom hope is placed in his house."
