It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever establishes the prayer, pays the zakah and dies worshipping Allah without associating anything with Him, then it is a right upon Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, that He admit him into Paradise, whether he emigrated or stayed seated in the land of his birth." A man said: O Messenger of Allah! If I tell this to the people, they will rest content with it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah has prepared for those who strive in His path one hundred levels; between every two levels is as much as between the heaven and the earth. If I had enough to strengthen myself and to strengthen the Muslims, or if they had in their hands enough to spend, no expedition would set out without my being its companion, but that is neither in my hand nor in theirs. And if I were to go out, everyone in whom there is any good would surely set out with me, and that weighs heavily upon me. So I wish that I could fight and be killed, then be brought back to life, then fight and be killed, then be brought back to life, then be killed."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever sincerely, from the depth of his heart, asks Allah for being killed in His path, then dies or is killed, will have the reward of a martyr. And whoever is wounded in the path of Allah or is struck by some calamity, it will come on the Day of Resurrection with his wound at its very freshest; its colour will be like saffron and its scent like musk. And whoever has wounds break out (on his body) in the path of Allah will bear the seal of the martyrs."

Allah has prepared it for the one who feeds others, speaks gently, keeps up the prayer regularly, and stands (in prayer) at night while people are asleep."
