حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ يَقُولُ: «أَبُو قَتَادَةَ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ رِبْعِيٍّ، وَكَانَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ أَحَدَ فُرْسَانِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ»
Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Abu Qatadah's name is al-Harith bin Rib'i (may Allah be pleased with him), and Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) was one of the horsemen of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ شَاهِينَ، ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «خَيْرُ فُرْسَانِنَا الْيَوْمَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ» . وَدَعَا لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْمِيضَأَةِ
Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Our best horseman today is Abu Qatadah." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for him on the day of the water-vessel (al-Mida'ah).
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ إِذْ مَادَ عَنِ الرَّاحِلَةِ، فَدَعَمْتُهُ بِيَدِي حَتَّى اسْتَيْقَظَ، ثُمَّ مَادَ فَدَعَمْتُهُ بِيَدِي حَتَّى اسْتَيْقَظَ، فَقَالَ: «اللهُمَّ احْفَظْ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ كَمَا حَفِظَنِي مُنْذُ اللَّيْلَةِ، مَا أُرَانَا إِلَّا قَدْ شَقَقْنَا عَلَيْكَ» . «وَكَانَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ يَخْضِبُ بِالصُّفْرَةِ»
Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on one of his journeys when he (peace and blessings be upon him) leaned over on his mount from drowsiness, so I supported him (peace and blessings be upon him) with my hand until he woke up. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) leaned over again, and I again supported him with my hand until he woke up. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, protect Abu Qatadah as he has protected me tonight. It seems to us that we have put you to hardship." And Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to dye (his hair) with yellow.
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ، ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سُرَاقَةَ، قَالَ: «رَأَيْتُ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ، وَأَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، وَابْنَ عُمَرَ، وَأَبَا أُسَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيَّ يَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْنَا وَنَحْنُ فِي الْكُتَّابِ نَجِدُ مِنْهُمْ رِيحَ الْعَبِيرِ ويُصِفِّرُونَ لِحَاهُمْ»
Uthman bin Abdullah bin Suraqah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I saw Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah, Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar and Sayyiduna Abu Usayd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with them) passing by us while we were children in the Qur'an school (kuttab). We would smell from them the fragrance of 'abir (a saffron-blended perfume), and they would dye their beards yellow.
حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى السَّاجِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْرَمَ، ثنا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، قَالَ: «رَأَيْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ، وَابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، وَأَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، وَأَبَا قَتَادَةَ، يَلْبَسُونَ مَطَارِفَ الْخَزِّ»
Ammar bin Abi Ammar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I saw Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah and Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with them) wearing embroidered cloaks of khazz (silk-blend).
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، قَالَ: «تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ، وَاسْمُهُ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ رِبْعِيٍّ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ وَخَمْسِينَ وَسِنُّهُ سَبْعُونَ سَنَةً»
Yahya bin Bukayr (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), whose name was al-Harith bin Rib'i, died in the year 54 AH at the age of seventy."
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ: «مَاتَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ رِبْعِيٍّ سَنَةَ أَرْبَعٍ وَخَمْسِينَ»
Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Abu Qatadah al-Harith bin Rib'i (may Allah be pleased with him) died in the year 54 AH."
