Sayyiduna Junadah al-Azdi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with a group of people from al-Azd on a Friday, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) invited us to food that was in front of him. We said: "We are fasting." He asked: "Did you fast yesterday?" We said: "No." He asked: "Will you fast tomorrow?" We said: "No." He said: "Then break your fast." Then he said: "Do not fast on Friday by itself."
