حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ مَرْثَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْيَزَنِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي بَصْرَةَ الْغِفَارِيِّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُمْ: " إِنِّي أَرْكَبُ إِلَى يَهُودَ فَمَنِ انْطَلَقَ مَعِي مِنْكُمْ فَلَا تَبْدَءُوهُمُ السَّلَامَ، فَإِنْ سَلَّمُوا فَقُولُوا: وَعَلَيْكُمْ " فَلَمَّا جِئْنَاهُمْ سَلَّمُوا عَلَيْنَا، فَقُلْنَا: وَعَلَيْكُمْ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Basrah al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Companions: "I am riding to the Jews. Whoever of you goes with me, let him not initiate the greeting of salam with them; if they greet you, then say only: 'Wa alaykum (And upon you).'" When we reached them, they greeted us, and we said: "Wa alaykum."
حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْخَيْرِ مَرْثَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْيَزَنِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي بَصْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّا ذَاهِبُونَ غَدًا إِلَى الْيَهُودِ فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَسَلَّمُوا عَلَيْكُمْ، فَقُولُوا: وَعَلَيْكُمْ " فَلَقِينَاهُمْ وَسَلَّمُوا عَلَيْنَا فَقُلْنَا: وَعَلَيْكُمْ "
Sayyiduna Abu Basrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tomorrow we are going to the Jews. When you meet them and they greet you, say: Wa alaykum (And upon you)." So we met them, and they greeted us, and we said: "Wa alaykum."
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ مَرْثَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْيَزَنِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي بَصْرَةَ الْغِفَارِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنِّي مُنْطَلِقٌ غَدًا إِلَى يَهُودَ فَلَا تَبْدَءُوهُمْ بِالسَّلَامِ، فَإِنْ سَلَّمُوا عَلَيْكُمْ فَقُولُوا: وَعَلَيْكُمْ "
Sayyiduna Abu Basrah al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tomorrow I am going to the Jews, so do not be the first to greet them with salam; and if they greet you, say: Wa alaykum (and upon you)."
حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ خَيْرِ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمٍ الْجَيْشَانِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي بَصْرَةَ الْغِفَارِيِّ رَضِي اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى يَوْمًا صَلَاةَ الْعَصْرِ بِالْمُخَمَّصِ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ، فَقَالَ: «هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةُ عُرِضَتْ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَتَوَانَوْا عَنْهَا وَتَرَكُوهَا، فَمَنْ صَلَّاهَا مِنْكُمْ ضُعِّفَ لَهُ أَجْرُهَا ضِعْفَيْنِ، وَلَا صَلَاةَ بَعْدَهَا حَتَّى يَطْلُعَ الشَّاهِدُ» ، قَالَ اللَّيْثُ: وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ خَيْرِ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Basrah al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Asr prayer at al-Mukhammas, then he turned away and said: "This prayer was presented to those before you, but they were lax about it and abandoned it. So whoever of you prays it will be given double the reward, and there is no prayer after it until the star rises."

حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ، وَحَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَا: ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، ثنا ابْنُ هُبَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ أَبَا تَمِيمٍ الْجَيْشَانِيُّ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَالِكٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا بَصْرَةَ الْغِفَارِيَّ، يَقُولُ: صَلَّى لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْعَصْرَ بِالْمُخَمَّصِ وَادٍ مِنْ بَعْضِ أَوْدِيَتِهِمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ: «إِنَّ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ عُرِضَتْ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ فَتَرَكُوهَا، أَلَا وَمَنْ صَلَّاهَا ضُعِّفَ لَهُ أَجْرُهَا وَلَا صَلَاةَ بَعْدَهَا حَتَّى تَرَوُا الشَّاهِدَ» وَهُوَ النَّجْمُ
Abdullah bin Malik al-Jayshani relates that he heard Sayyiduna Abu Basrah al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Asr prayer at al-Mukhammas, which is one of their valleys, then he said: "This prayer was presented to those before you, but they abandoned it. Indeed, whoever prays it will be given double the reward, and there is no prayer after it until you see the shahid (witness)." And by the shahid is meant the star.
حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ هُبَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ أَبَا تَمِيمٍ الْجَيْشَانِيَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَالِكٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ، يَقُولُ: أَخْبَرَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ زَادَكُمْ صَلَاةً فَصَلُّوهَا فِيمَا بَيْنَ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ الْوِتْرَ الْوِتْرَ» ، أَلَا وَإِنَّهُ أَبُو بَصْرَةَ الْغِفَارِيُّ
قَالَ أَبُو تَمِيمٌ: فَكُنْتُ أَنَا وَأَبُو ذَرٍّ قَاعِدَيْنَ فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِي أَبُو ذَرٍّ، فَانْطَلَقْنَا إِلَى أَبِي بَصْرَةَ فَوَجَدْنَاهُ عِنْدَ الْبَابِ الَّذِي عِنْدَ دَارِ عَمْرٍو فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو ذَرٍّ: يَا أَبَا بَصْرَةَ أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ زَادَكُمْ صَلَاةً فَصَلُّوهَا فِيمَا بَيْنَ الْعِشَاءِ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ الْوِتْرَ الْوِتْرَ» ، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ؟، قَالَ: نَعَمْ
قَالَ أَبُو تَمِيمٌ: فَكُنْتُ أَنَا وَأَبُو ذَرٍّ قَاعِدَيْنَ فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِي أَبُو ذَرٍّ، فَانْطَلَقْنَا إِلَى أَبِي بَصْرَةَ فَوَجَدْنَاهُ عِنْدَ الْبَابِ الَّذِي عِنْدَ دَارِ عَمْرٍو فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو ذَرٍّ: يَا أَبَا بَصْرَةَ أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ زَادَكُمْ صَلَاةً فَصَلُّوهَا فِيمَا بَيْنَ الْعِشَاءِ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ الْوِتْرَ الْوِتْرَ» ، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ؟، قَالَ: نَعَمْ
Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told me that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has granted you an additional prayer, so pray it between the Isha prayer and the Fajr prayer: the witr, the witr." Indeed, that Companion was Abu Basrah al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him).
Abu Tamim said: Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) and I were sitting, and Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) took me by the hand and we went to Abu Basrah (may Allah be pleased with him). We found him at the door near the house of Amr, and Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "O Abu Basrah! Did you hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Allah has granted you an additional prayer, so pray it between Isha and the Fajr prayer: the witr, the witr'?" He said: "Yes." Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Did you hear it yourself?" He said: "Yes."

حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ، ثنا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بَصْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ زَادَكُمْ صَلَاةً فَحَافِظُوا عَلَيْهَا، وَجَعَلَ وَقْتَهَا فِيمَا بَيْنَ الْعِشَاءِ إِلَى الْفَجْرِ وَهِي الْوِتْرُ»
Sayyiduna Abu Basrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has granted you an additional prayer, so guard it. He has set its time between Isha and Fajr, and it is the witr."
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَلُولٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، أَنَّ كُلَيْبَ بْنَ ذُهْلٍ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ بْنَ جَبْرٍ، قَالَ: رَكِبْتُ مَعَ أَبِي بَصْرَةَ صَاحِبِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَفِينَةً مِنَ الْفُسْطَاطِ ثُمَّ قَرَّبَ غَدَاءَهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي: «اقْتَرِبْ» فَقُلْتُ: أَلَيْسَ نَحْنُ فِي الْبُيُوتِ؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَصْرَةَ: «أَرَغِبْتَ عَنْ سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟»
Ubayd bin Jabr said: I boarded a boat from al-Fustat with Sayyiduna Abu Basrah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he brought his morning meal near and said to me: "Come closer." I asked: "Are we not still among the houses?" Abu Basrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Are you turning away from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?"
حَدَّثَنَا الْمُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، وَحَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ كُلَيْبِ بْنِ ذُهْلٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ أَنَّهُ: سَافَرَ مَعَ أَبِي بَصْرَةَ الْغِفَارِيِّ فِي رَمَضَانَ، فَلَمَّا دَفَعُوا مِنَ الْفُسْطَاطِ دَعَا بِطَعَامٍ وَنَحْنُ نَنْظُرُ إِلَى الْفُسْطَاطِ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: تَأْكُلُ وَلَوْ نُرِيدُ أَنْ نَنْظُرَ إِلَى الْفُسْطَاطِ نَظَرْنَا إِلَيْهِ؟ فَقَالَ: «تَرْغَبُ عَنْ سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابِهِ؟ فَأَفْطَرَ»
Ubayd bin Jabr relates that he travelled with Sayyiduna Abu Basrah al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) in Ramadan. When they set out from al-Fustat, Abu Basrah (may Allah be pleased with him) called for food while we were still looking at al-Fustat. I said to him: "You are eating, even though if we wished to look at al-Fustat we could see it?" He said: "Are you turning away from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions?" And he broke his fast.
حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ أَبِي هانِي الْخَوْلَانِيِّ، عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ، عَنْ أَبِي بَصْرَةَ الْغِفَارِيِّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي أَرْبَعًا فَأَعْطَانِي ثَلَاثًا وَمَنَعَنِي وَاحِدَةً، سَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُجْمِعَ أُمَّتِي عَلَى ضَلَالَةٍ فَأَعْطَانِيهَا، وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُهْلِكَهُمْ بِالسِّنِينَ كَمَا أَهْلَكَ الْأُمَمَ قَبْلَهُمْ فَأَعْطَانِيهَا، وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يُظْهِرَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَدُوًّا مِنْ غَيْرِهِمْ فَأَعْطَانِيهَا، وَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ لَا يَلْبِسَهُمْ شِيَعًا وَلَا يُذِيقَ بَعْضَهُمْ بَأْسَ بَعْضٍ فَمَنَعَنِيهَا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Basrah al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I asked my Lord for four things; He gave me three and withheld one from me. I asked Him not to gather my Ummah upon misguidance, and He granted me that. I asked Him not to destroy them with famine as He destroyed the nations before them, and He granted me that too. I asked Him not to give an enemy from other than themselves dominance over them, and He granted me that too. And I asked Him not to divide them into factions and not to make some of them taste the violence of others, and He did not grant me that."
