Abu Qilabah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a man from Quraysh called Thumamah was the governor of San'a'. When Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, he delivered a sermon and wept bitterly. When he recovered and composed himself, he said: "Today the caliphate of prophethood has been taken away from the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and it has become kingship and tyranny; whoever takes something will become its owner."

Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): from the rare narrations of the Musnad of Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him). His kunyah was Abu Abdullah. It is said that he was from Yemen, from the tribe of Himyar, a slave of the household of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); and it is said that he had been taken captive, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) bought him and set him free.
