Abu al-Ash'ath al-San'ani (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: There was a governor over San'a' - Abu Qahdham says: he was called Thumamah bin Adi, and he was a Companion - when news of the death of so-and-so came, he wept bitterly. When he recovered, he said: "This is the time when the caliphate of prophethood has been taken away, and it has become kingship and tyranny; whoever prevails over something will become its owner."
Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): from the rare narrations of the Musnad of Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him). His kunyah was Abu Abdullah. It is said that he was from Yemen, from the tribe of Himyar, a slave of the household of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); and it is said that he had been taken captive, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) bought him and set him free. He used to live in Hims, and he died in the year 54 AH.
