Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him). Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Bilal! Die poor, and do not die rich." I said: How can that be? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever you are given as provision, do not hide it away, and whatever you are asked for, do not withhold it." I said: O Messenger of Allah! How will I manage that? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is that, or else the Fire (will be faced)."

It is narrated through the same chain: Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him). Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I had some dates, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is this?" I said: We have stored it for our winter. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you not fear that you will see smoke in Hell because of it?"
