حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ، ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ أَوْسٍ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، «أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ فَاسْتَوْكَفَ ثَلَاثًا» قَالَ شُعْبَةُ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا عَرَبِيًّا: فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: مَا اسْتَوْكَفَ؟ قَالَ: «غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and did "istawkafa" three times.
Shu'bah said - and he (the narrator) was an Arab man - I asked him: What does istawkafa mean? He said: "He washed his hands three times."

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْسٍ، قَالَ: «رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَى كِظَامَةً - يَعْنِي مَطْهَرَةً - فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى قَدَمَيْهِ»
Sayyiduna Aws bin Abi Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) come to a kizamah - that is, a place for ablution - and he performed ablution and wiped over his feet.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْقَطِرَانِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ، ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَجُلًا جَدُّهُ أَوْسُ بْنُ أَوْسٍ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَوْسِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ، قَالَ: إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ، قَالَ: نَاوِلْنِي نَعْلِي، فَيَنْتَعِلُ وَيُصَلِّي فِي نَعْلَيْهِ، وَيَقُولُ: «رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي فِي نَعْلَيْهِ»
The grandson of Sayyiduna Aws bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when he (Sayyiduna Aws (may Allah be pleased with him)) stood up for prayer, he would say: Give me my sandals. Then he would put on his sandals and pray in his sandals, and he would say: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying in his sandals."
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، وَأَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْسٍ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ أَبِي «يَمْسَحُ عَلَى النَّعْلَيْنِ» فَقُلْتُ: أَتَمْسَحُ عَلَيْهَا؟ فَقَالَ: «رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَفْعَلُهُ»
Sayyiduna Aws bin Abi Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I saw my father wiping over his sandals, so I asked: Do you wipe over them? He said: "I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) doing it."
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْسٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: مَرَرْنَا عَلَى مَاءٍ مِنْ مِيَاهِ الْأَعْرَابِ، فَقَامَ أَبِي «فَبَالَ ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ، وَمَسَحَ عَلَى نَعْلَيْهِ» قُلْتُ: أَلَا تَخْلَعُهُمَا؟ قَالَ: «لَا أَزِيدُكَ عَلَى مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَفْعَلُهُ»
Sayyiduna Aws bin Abi Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father, who said: We passed by one of the watering places of the Bedouins, and my father stood up, urinated, then performed ablution and wiped over his sandals. I asked: Will you not take them off? He said: "I do not go beyond what I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) doing."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحَرِيشِ، حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: «رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى نَعْلَيْهِ»
Sayyiduna Aws bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform ablution and wipe over his sandals.
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْسٍ، قَالَ: «رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ، وَمَسَحَ عَلَى نَعْلَيْهِ، وَقَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ»
Sayyiduna Aws bin Abi Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) perform ablution, wipe over his sandals, and then stand up for the prayer.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي أَوْسٍ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، «أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فِي نَعْلَيْهِ»
Ibn Abi Aws narrates from his grandfather that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed in his sandals.
