Abu Ubaydah Ma'mar bin al-Muthanna said: Talhah was the son of Ubaydullah bin Uthman bin Amir bin Ka'b bin Sa'd bin Taym bin Murrah bin Ka'b bin Lu'ayy bin Ghalib bin Fihr bin Malik. His mother was al-Sa'bah bint al-Hadrami. Her father was called al-Hadrami because he was in the land of Hadramawt; there he killed Amr bin Nahid al-Himyari, then fled to Makkah and became an ally of Harb bin Umayyah. The name of al-Hadrami was Abdullah bin Ammar bin Rabi'ah bin Akbar bin Awf bin Malik bin Uwayf bin Khazraj bin Iyad bin al-Sadif bin Hadramawt bin Qahtan bin Kindah. Al-Sa'bah was the sister of al-Ala' bin al-Hadrami, and her mother was Atikah bint Wahb bin Abd bin Qusayy bin Kilab bin Murrah bin Ka'b.

Urwah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Talhah bin Ubaydullah bin Uthman bin Amr bin Ka'b bin Sa'd bin Taym bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) was in Syria; then he returned and spoke to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about his share, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) assigned him a share of the spoils as well. He said: "And will I have the reward too, O Messenger of Allah?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And the reward too." This was the incident of the day of Badr.
