حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، قَالَ: " أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ اسْمُهُ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ تَيْمِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ، شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَأُمُّ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: أُمُّ الْخَيْرِ سَلْمَى بِنْتُ صَخْرِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ تَيْمِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ لُؤَيِّ بْنِ غَالِبِ بْنِ فِهْرِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، وَأُمُّ أُمِّ الْخَيْرِ: دِلَافُ وَهِي أُمَيْمَةُ بِنْتُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ النَّاقِدِ الْخُزَاعِيِّ، وَجَدَّةُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ: أُمُّ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ أَمِينَةُ بِنْتُ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى بْنِ حُرْثَانَ بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُوَيْجِ بْنِ عَدِيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ "
Urwah said: The name of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abdullah bin Uthman bin Amir bin Amr bin Ka'b bin Sa'd bin Taym bin Murrah. He took part in Badr with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The mother of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was Umm al-Khayr Salma bint Sakhr bin Amir bin Amr bin Ka'b bin Sa'd bin Taym bin Murrah bin Ka'b bin Lu'ayy bin Ghalib bin Fihr bin Malik; the mother of Umm al-Khayr was Dilaf, that is, Umaymah bint Ubayd bin al-Naqid al-Khuza'i; and the grandmother of Abu Bakr, the mother of Abu Quhafah, was Aminah bint Abd al-Uzza bin Hurthan bin Awf bin Ubayd bin Uwayj bin Adi bin Ka'b.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْمَدِينِيُّ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْهَيْثَمِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ، قَالَ: " أُمُّ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يُقَالُ لَهَا: أُمُّ الْخَيْرِ بِنْتُ صَخْرِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، وَهَلَكَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَوَرِثَهُ أَبَوَاهُ جَمِيعًا، وَكَانَا قَدْ أَسْلَمَا، وَمَاتَتْ أُمُّ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَبْلَ أَبِيهِ "
Al-Haytham bin Adi said: The mother of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was called Umm al-Khayr bint Sakhr bin Amir. When Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) died, both his parents inherited from him, and both of them had accepted Islam; and the mother of Abu Bakr died before his father.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ الْمَدَنِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ هَانِئٍ الشَّجَرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ خَازِمِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ: " أَسْلَمَتْ أُمُّ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَأُمُّ عُثْمَانَ، وَأُمُّ طَلْحَةَ، وَأُمُّ الزُّبَيْرِ، وَأُمُّ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، وَأُمُّ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمْ، وَيُقَالُ: عَتِيقُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، وَإِنَّما سُمِّيَ عَتِيقًا لِحُسْنِ وَجْهِهِ "
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The mother of Abu Bakr, the mother of Uthman, the mother of Talhah, the mother of al-Zubayr, the mother of Abd al-Rahman bin Awf, and the mother of Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with them) all accepted Islam. And it is said: Atiq bin Uthman; he was called Atiq only because of the beauty of his face.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُعَلَّى الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ثنا ضَمْرَةُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ: «إِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَتِيقًا لَجَمَالِ وَجْهِهِ، وَاسْمُهُ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ»
Al-Layth bin Sa'd said: Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was called Atiq because of the beauty of his face, and his name was Abdullah bin Uthman.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا حَفْصٍ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَلِيٍّ يَقُولُ: كَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ مَعْرُوقَ الْوَجْهِ، وَإِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ عَتِيقًا لِعَتَاقَةِ وَجْهِهِ، وَكَانَ اسْمُهُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُثْمَانَ، وِقَدْ رُوِيَ «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمَّاهُ عَتِيقًا مِنَ النَّارِ»
Abu Hafs Amr bin Ali said: Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) had a lean face, and he was called Atiq precisely because of the fineness of his face, and his name was Abdullah bin Uthman. It is also narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the name "Atiq" in the sense of being freed from the Fire.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ أَبِي قَيْسٍ الْبُخَارِيُّ، ثنا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ثنا، ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ غَزِيَّةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا عَنِ اسْمِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، فَقَالَتْ: «عَبْدُ اللهِ» . فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ: عَتِيقٌ، فَقَالَتْ: «إِنَّ أَبَا قُحَافَةَ كَانَ لَهُ ثَلَاثَةٌ فَسَمَّى وَاحِدًا عَتِيقًا، وَمُعَيْتِقًا، وَمُعْتَقًا»
Qasim bin Muhammad said: I asked Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) about the name of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and she said: "Abdullah." I said: But people call him Atiq. She said: "Abu Quhafah had three sons; he named one Atiq, the second Mu'aytiq, and the third Mu'taq."
حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا حَامِدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْبَلْخِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: كَانَ اسْمُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُثْمَانَ «فَسَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَتِيقًا مِنَ النَّارِ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The name of Abu Bakr was Abdullah bin Uthman; then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), giving him the glad tidings of freedom from the Fire, gave him the name "Atiq".
حَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا حَبِيبُ بْنُ زُرَيْقٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ، يَقُولُ: " كَانَ اسْمُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُثْمَانَ "
Amr bin Sulaym said: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "The name of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abdullah bin Uthman."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعُمَرِيُّ الْقَاضِي، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ، حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا، فَقَالَتْ: إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ دَخَلَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: «أَنْتَ عَتِيقٌ مِنَ النَّارِ» فَمِنْ يَوْمَئِذٍ سُمِّيَ عَتِيقًا
Ishaq bin Talhah said: I went to Sayyidah Aishah, the Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), and she said: Abu Bakr came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You are freed from Hell." From that day on he came to be called Atiq.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ، وَأَبُو زُرْعَةَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا صَالِحُ بْنُ مُوسَى الطَّلْحِيُّ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ بِنْتِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، مَرَّ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «مَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى عَتِيقٍ مِنَ النَّارِ، فَلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى هَذَا» . قَالَتْ: وَاسْمُهُ الَّذِي سَمَّاهُ أَهْلُهُ: عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah, the Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), that Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wishes to look at a man freed from Hell, let him look at this man." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: And the name that his family had given him was Abdullah bin Uthman.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، قَالَ: " لَا نَعْلَمُ أَرْبَعَةً أَدْرَكُوا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبْنَاؤُهُمْ، إِلَّا هَؤُلَاءِ الْأَرْبَعَةَ: أَبُو قُحَافَةَ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَأَبُو عَتِيقِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَاسْمُ أَبِي عَتِيقٍ مُحَمَّدٌ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمْ "
Musa bin Uqbah said: We know of no four men who, together with their offspring, lived in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), except these four: Abu Quhafah, Abu Bakr, Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr, and Abu Atiq bin Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with them); and the name of Abu Atiq was Muhammad.
حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِلَالٍ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ سَيْفٍ، أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ جَلَسَ مَعَ شُفَيٍّ الْأَصْبَحِيِّ فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " يَكُونُ بَعْدِي اثْنَا عَشَرَ خَلِيفَةً: أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ لَا يَلْبَثُ بَعْدِي إِلَّا قَلِيلًا، وَصَاحِبُ رَحًى دَارَّةٍ يَعِيشُ حَمِيدًا، وَيَمُوتُ شَهِيدًا ". قِيلَ: مَنْ هُوَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: «عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ» رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ فَقَالَ: «وَأَنْتَ سَيَسْأَلُكَ النَّاسُ أَنْ تَخْلَعَ قَمِيصًا كَسَاكَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ، لَئِنْ خَلَعْتَهُ، لَا تَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ حَتَّى يَلِجَ الْجَمَلُ فِي سَمِّ الْخِيَاطِ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "After me there will be twelve caliphs: Abu Bakr al-Siddiq will remain after me only a short while; and the man of the turning millstone will live praiseworthy and will die a martyr." It was asked: O Messenger of Allah, who is he? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Umar bin al-Khattab." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "And as for you, people will demand that you take off the garment that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has clothed you with. By the One in whose hand is my soul, if you take it off, you will not enter Paradise until the camel passes through the eye of the needle."
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمَهَّالِ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْمِقْدَامُ، ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَا: ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُمْهَانَ، عَنْ سَفِينَةَ، مَوْلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: «الْخِلَافَةُ ثَلَاثُونَ سَنَةً، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ مُلْكًا» قَالَ: «أمْسَكَ ثِنْتَيْنِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَعَشْرًا عُمَرُ، وَاثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ عُثْمَانُ، وَسِتًّا عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمْ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Safinah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The caliphate is thirty years; then after that it will become kingship." Sayyiduna Safinah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Abu Bakr ruled as caliph for two years, Umar for ten years, Uthman for twelve years, and Ali (may Allah be pleased with them) for six years.
حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ السَّلُولِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْعَبْدِيُّ، عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ ظَبْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى حَكِيمِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ " يَحْلِفُ: لَلَّهُ أَنْزَلَ اسْمَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ الصِّدِّيقُ "
Abu Yahya Hakim bin Sa'd said: I heard Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) swear: "Allah sent down the name of Abu Bakr, 'al-Siddiq', from the heaven."
حَدَّثَنَا بُهْلُولُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ بُهْلُولٍ الْأَنْبَارِيُّ، ثنا أَبِي، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى بْنِ أَبِي الْمُسَاوِرِ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَتْنِي أُمُّ هَانِئٍ، قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا أُسْرِيَ بِهِ: «أَنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَخْرُجَ إِلَى قُرَيْشٍ فَأُخْبِرَهُمْ» ، فَأَخْبَرَهُمْ فَكَذِّبُوهُ، وَصَدَّقَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَسُمِّي يَوْمَئِذٍ الصِّدِّيقُ
Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) said that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken on the Night Journey (Mi'raj), he said: "I want to go out to Quraysh and tell them." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) told them, and they denied him, while Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) affirmed him as truthful; so from that day he came to be called "al-Siddiq".
