حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، أنا عَاصِمُ ابْنُ بَهْدَلَةَ، وَحَمَّادٌ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ: السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ، السَّلَامُ عَلَى جِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ وَكُلِّ مَلَكٍ نَعْلَمُ اسْمَهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا تَقُولُوا السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ؛ فَإِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ» ، ثُمَّ عَلَّمَنَا «التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، فَإِذَا قُلْتُمْ هَذَا فَقَدْ دَخَلَ فِي قَوْلِكُمْ كُلُّ مَلَكٍ وَكُلُّ نَبِيٍّ وَكُلُّ عَبْدٍ صَالِحٍ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We used to say in the prayer: Peace be upon Allah, peace be upon Jibril and Mika'il and upon every angel whose name we know. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not say: Peace be upon Allah, for Allah Himself is al-Salam." Then he taught us: "All verbal, physical and financial acts of worship are for Allah alone. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the servant of Allah and His Messenger. When you say this, every angel, every prophet and every righteous servant will be included in it."
