Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 9843 — A man came to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud

Huzayl bin Shurahbil said: A man came to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I had a slave; I freed him and made him a sa'ibah (a freed slave with no ties of patronage) in the path of Allah. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: The Muslims do not make sa'ibahs; that was only the practice of the people of Jahiliyyah. You are his benefactor and the most entitled of people to his inheritance. If you feel uneasy about anything, show it to us and we will put it in the Bayt al-Mal (public treasury).
