It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to him and said: I recited the whole of the Mufassal in one rak'ah. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Rather, you rattled through it hastily like poetry, the way bad dates are scattered. But the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite surahs of similar length and theme in one rak'ah. Then he mentioned twenty surahs in ten rak'ahs, according to Sayyiduna Abdullah's (may Allah be pleased with him) own arrangement, the last two of which were "Idha al-shamsu kuwwirat" and "al-Dukhan".
